I followed the ship for about a mile before returning, maybe a 20min flight, the 4gb video file was corrupt and wouldn't open afterwards, luckily I was able to repair it.

Very nice footage. Amazing how big these things are!

Yeah, this is the second time a file has been corrupt with the Mavic, I don't get this problem with my P4, luckily the program "fix DJI" exists.

I did a quick count across and down.  If there are NO containers beneath the deck, I estimate over 2000 containers (thus 2000 trucks) atop that ship.  More if there are containers below deck.  Seamanship is amazing!  I can't imagine what it'd be like aboard that ship in a severe storm at sea.

What did you use to repair the file? was it a MOV or Mp4?  I have had a few on the mavic that ended up corrupt too, and its ALWAYS the file with the best footage!

Yeah and they are the big 40-50ft containers. Believe it or not there are much bigger container ships than this, some are 400m long, this one is 336m... mind boggling.

Looks like they only use the Xband radar on the vessel, if they had started the Sband, you could have lost the signal, its most common with 30kw magnetrons on the Sband, and frequencies differ, but they are around the wifi freq.

Have anyone had problems with this?
Im working with marine electronics with these kind of vessels and just bought a mavic, but have not used it like this yet, but plan to. But then i will fly from bridge.

I did experience intermittent problems with video feed on my iPad during this flight, I was well within range and line of sight. Plus a corrupt 4gb file (probably unrelated), and the flight distance/path was not recorded on my flight log?

Was worth it though.

It looks as if you could land easily but the ship is picking up speed and is probably cruising at 10kts, I'm glad I didn't try.
