Using a Windows 8.1 PC.  I get the home screen but nothing else except the email login.  The program does not detect my RC or Aircraft. Pretty useless...

I had the same problem yesterday. Updates still went on as far as I can tell.

You need to open the Assistant 2 software first and login. Then connect either the RC or the drone via a usb cable. Then turn the RC or drone on.
The other possibility is that the required usb drivers have not been installed.
