Hi chaps,
Doing some last Minute  testing before I fly to Antartica and I seem to of found a problem with an usb lead to a iPad, it will not connect with the iPad  if the original cable is plugged in (charge point) and it also drops out, ie disconnects. unplug and replug it comes back. new cable is the same issue. have I somehow got this wrong and you need a mini usb to lightning cable or is there a setting I should change?
Any info would be great as I leave in 10 days.

be carefull there as gps might not be working >magnetic south. Please be prepared to fly a lot in atti mode

You can update the iOS mobile device’s operating system to iOS 11 again with the iTunes.
If the problem still exists, please provide the following information:
1. On the iOS 11 mobile device, go to “Settings”, “General”, and “About”,     and check whether there is a “C1” option.
2.Connect to iTunes and click “Sync”.
   Go to C:\Users\[Your_User_Name]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\.
   If you use mac, go to ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/.
3.Open the “Device’s Name” (“XXX’s iPhone”) folder .
   Check whether there is a crash file of which the name starts with “accessory” or “iap”.

halley6 British antarctic survey

Hi chaps, arrived in Antarctica, the base is Halley6 British Antarctic Survey, have flown the Mavic but not the inspire or the matrice600, strangely it showed 20 satellites and in Europe I only normally had 17. no issues with cold and all sensors worked.
had a gimbal wobble warning but went away, footage good but using ND64 to deal with the 100% UV and total reflectiveness of the snow.
alas we only have 1.5mb of data between the 60 people on the base and most of that is science data too so no vid.

will post more pictures if anybody wants to see them.

How much were the flight tickets? Kinda curious how much for a tourist to just go there.

What about the flight time? Don't leave the batteries at low % or they'll die!

I had about 45% left after 18 mins, only -26 though, just filmed a 80m wide crevasse and 380m deep, and nearly lost the drone as vis went to pot and caught the edge. all good though. about to go through the footage.
will try to post some still if they turn out to be good.

Thanks guys for the kind words, I will post when bandwidth allows. the question about cost, £20,00 to get us to the station by three flights, about 20 flying hours normally, we did have a stop over in a Russian base because of weather, 5 days living in two containers welded together and 9 people with all our kit.. it was cosy but a bonding experience. no drone footage because we had 80 Knott winds and 3m visibility.
these extreme places are all about people and understanding the dangers of the environment.
let me know if you want me to continue to chat about life here at the bottom of the world?

I assume you meant 20k pounds, which is expensive! It seems like a unique experience though so if I had the money I would definitely do it too.

I, for one, would love to hear more about life at the bottom of the world. I'll likely never get that experience. Living vicariously through your words and pictures is great! Thank you for taking the time to share.

hi all, view of some of the winter storage modules, taken at 01:00 at night. temp here is -26 and a wind chill of -37. we try to maintain normal working hours of 08:30 to 18:00 but when the weather is this clear we work 18 hour days because when its bad its realy bad. 60 knott winds and 3m vis with snow drifts up to 3m deep.

we store equipment in underground garages to weather the winter temps of -60, its a constant -12 at two metres under the ground. Only problem is you need a small truck to lift the door. what might take two mins in the normal world takes two hours here. temp here are colder than might seem in the picture, -15 but with wind chill its -27C. the main problem with travel by foot is the soft snow, so every step you sink 150mm down and this after a few hundred metres knocks the stuffing out of you..  the vehivles use a special low temp fuel called avgas, it freezes about -70c, it has a lower octain value however the cooler air helps with engine efficancies.

just before christmas and had to do a few days nightshift because the boat arrived and there is so much to unload before the ice becomes to bad and traps the Earnest Shaclelson for weeks. the above was taken at 3am, hard to know whats up and whats dowon here sometimes.

Antartica has many beauties but we still have to live here day to day so fuel for the base is essential to keep the generators running and the food cooking.
we use a special avtur jet fuel because it workd to around -70c, however the day of the picture it was -3c.

All I can say is wow, so cool! Teehee!

Also, Apple devices suck in the cold and turn off whenever they feel like it. Just an FYI.
