I would be very careful there.   Or in any place in the middle east.

Aloha ImProVision,

Ditto on what ALABAMA wrote!  They do not mess around there or anywhere else in the Middle East.

Aloha and Drone On!

Interesting article. Also interesting that it appears that you can fly over the World islands, but not the Palm islands (there's a few docos on the making of them btw - its amazing...).

Regardless, I travelled from Australia to Germany via Dubai recently. I wanted to take one of my drones, but after researching I decided not to. It isn't so much the rules, it's the airport security guard's convenient interpretation of them. So it isn't really a matter of whether drones are allowed to be brought in, it's whether you want to take the risk of having the drone - or possibly just the batteries - confiscated and never returned...

I guess it depends on who you are, and what you fly.

Well, if you're flying a Boeing A380, Emirates park so many there that no-one would notice another one...  ;-)

Surely a couple of those Boeing jets belong to his wealthy family and entourage.

Drone laws here are kinda confusing. Abu Dhabi prohibits drones with cameras. They let you register a drone with a camera though, and there is even a checkbox for this during the registration process. Dubai isn't much better, saying to not fly above public or private property(?!).

If you're out in the desert no one will care though. If you buzz the Sheikh's palace, expect to be hauled away though.

Hey Punchy, Longtime mate.

Yes, you can fly but you have to register your flight course. I have been there couples of times with the MP with no problem. Beautiful country, beautiful people and gorgeous beaches.

It goes for any country, just follow the law like any other country or you end up in nowhere land.

My son is going there in 2 weeks for an Internship for a month and he is taking the SPARK with him.

Hey Dronist. Sounds very cool (no pun intended) for your son. I hope it works out well for him there. I only  flew in and out each way, but I've heard how beautiful the desert can be.

As punchbuggy said airport security has been a problem for others before you, I would advise you contact them and see if you can find out is it ok to bring your drone into Dubai, I’m sure as dronist has posted it will be ok, but it always pays to be ahead of the game.
Good luck.

Thx Punchy! He is very excited, especially looking forward to the indoor skiing in the desert since he will be missing the ski season in the US.

Why would anyone in their right mind, wish to go to a war torn, terrorist laden, nasty place, as those, to fly?

Unless you are of that native heritage from there, or a diplomatic individual, with armed personal.

We have plenty of it, and it only arrived last week, so it's still clean and fresh.

How many bushels will you require? Hahaha

Wow, that looks so inviting. Lucky ones...

Penthouse? Say hi to Bob Guccione son for me....  ;-)
Bob Guccione. Robert Charles Joseph Edward Sabatini "Bob" Guccione (pronounced "goo-chee-OAN-eh", December 17, 1930 – October 20, 2010)
He was the Penthouse founder.

I hope that your stay is comfortable, and you don't get too sun burned.

Bag up some of that sand, bring it back, and sell small bags, as pet rock babies. Ha

Looking forward to your magnificent drone vids...  ;-)

Have fun, and safe travels.
