7 SATs now instead of 6

Maybe this was noted before, if so sorry, but I just realized I need 7 SATs now for GPS lock. I guess I never noticed it before because I usually get 8 to 10 GPS birds pretty quickly even indoors. But I noticed this morning I need 7 SATs for a lock and to register my home point. If the SATs drop to 6 I get the alternating green/red flash on the rear LEDs. That used to happen at 5 SATs. I didn't realize that was part of the 3.12 firmware change. The bird has been flying great. I noticed yesterday I had no yaw drift. None at all, it rotated perfectly on its axis  in both directions. I had gotten it down to about 2 feet by just redoing the IMU cals. But I have no idea why it's currently so good.

The other thing (not part of firmware) is how tight my props are. Most of the time I take my props off after a flight when I bring my bird inside only because of where I store my bird. But the last couple of flights I left them on. I have always only hand tightened my props. I never used the wrench to put them on or take them off. After I flew yesterday the props were so tight I can not get them off by hand. I have to go find the wrench to take them off. It's time for me to open it up and do an inspection. I also want to secure the motor wires to the ESC in order to prevent them breaking due to vibration.

Gerry, my Phantom will not obtain GPS lock until 7 SATs. I don't remember ever having a flashing red light at 6 SATs. Am I remembering wrong? Or are you saying it not working correctly?

Jato,

I was going to give my "opinion" but I guess that's not necessary since "someone" already provided you with the "facts".

OK so I guess the red light is supposed to be there at 6. Well that a comfort and I guess my mind is going. But what I do see is my home point registering (what I called sat lock) doesn't seem to happen until after I have 7 sats. Again maybe I never noticed it before because I normally get lots a SATs pretty quick. I noticed it this morning while I had the Phantom indoors. I have repeated it twice. So at how many sats does/did/should home point registeration occur?

Agreed. I'm using a 3rd party app which gives me a warning whenever the locked number of satellites is less than 7. Also, the home icon "H" does not register in the map unless at least 7 are found so I don't take off before that happens. Cheers.

OK Gerry I saw this post after I post the question about home point. Maybe it is me or my bird but I am not seeing home point until 7 SATs. Today the GPS birds seem to be slow showing up. I try it again later and see what happens.
Thanks.

I deleted my posts because you would never believe anything I posted anyway.  But here is some information for you.  page 7 from the Phantom 2 Vision + latest manual.  I have already explained the 1 red flash.  That is a warning that you have only 6 sats and you are about to lose sat lock if you fail to do something.  1 red light is just a warning, nothing more, nothing less.

Found this on another forum:

[The aircraft lights normally indicate GPS information. Green Red Red Red means you have less then 5 satellites. Green Red Red = 5. Green Red = 6. Green only = more than 6, and you can fly in GPS mode. (all assuming Naza Mode]

Did that info come from the manual?  When they did the new 3.12 update, the light sequence changed. Still 6 sats to get gps lock,  1 red and green is warning you are at minimum to retain gps lock.

Thanks Gerry, saved for the archives. I stumbled across my previously deleted info when I was trying to determine whether my compass dances were successful or not. After the horizontal and vertical spins the LEDs would blink red a couple of times then several blinks of green. After reading the previous deleted info, I determined that as long as you don't get the flashing yellows, then the calibration passed and the LEDs go back into gps indication mode.

I didn't appreciate the post you deleted and your sarcasm  Gerry I have tried to bury the hatchet with you I thanked you and I was sincere. If you figured I wouldn't believe anything you said why did you bother to post anything in the thread in the first place. You have ignored me since the ban.

I'm just following orders from the DJI ADMIN, not to respond to you in any shape, form or matter, but this misinformation you put there would be detrimental to others.  I still think you don't believe what I can do with the tablet.  I even got burned with another poster over that a few weeks later.  so I'm done here.  So unlike you that would post

Guy if that was to me I am sorry I never saw your post. Sometimes I have issues navigating this form and don't read every post.

I didn't strip my Phantom down when I painted it. I just removed the top, landing gear and camera. I then taped over the vents, battery slot, screw holes, USB port and the motors with blue painters tape.  I also removed the clear plastic over the LEDs and taped that area up. The vents on the top I taped from the inside. The ones on the bottom I taped from the outside. I lightly sanded and painted it. After the paint dried (2 coats) I removed the tape over the vents on the bottom. I then used a bottle of auto touch-up paint with a brush to paint the area that was covered with the tape. Since it was black it was easy to match the color of the spray can of Krylon.  I use that same auto paint to fix any area that gets chipped.

And our poetry was worse than this thread?  I'm OK with everyone, in spite of some people not liking our camaraderie- Jato published a great Poem in the spirit of water under the bridge and I loved it.

The senior long term contributors here should get on and develop the social side a bit I reckon.   I keep away these days as certain people want the forum to run in a more formal way (and I don't mean you Jato, or of course Gerry, who has become a long distance friend.)

If we, the users and contributors are not allowed to shape the style a little then its value to me is limited.

Hello Rod

Yes same old, same old & nothing changes. It is taking some time for some to get over t ...

Hi Guy, yes all is pretty good with me, however it is such a shame that we old fellas can't have a bit of fun and socialise with each other on here.  Bird and North joined in the fun and it did no harm, and kept us sane.  Still if the consensus is that it should be a purely information and help forum, then I guess its not for me.

And I just cannot abide the gestapo tactics of the mods- deleting stuff .  I know some discussions do go a bit off topic, but it is still interesting to hear other peoples points of view- if some contributors here got off their purist high horse , then they might see that others have different viewpoints.  Still, it is a free world and everyone is entitled to a point of view, but not us apparently.

Anyway, peace be with you and Gerry and our beloved poets corner- it may yet find a place in the forum's heart!

Cheers!

For me, GPS lock also kicks in at 6. Usually inflight I get about 9-12 sats, sometimes eight. Rarely I also take off before all 6 sats are found, then fly to a higher spot where HP is registered.
