1. DJI Goggles Racing Edition

Q1: What are the main differences between DJI Goggles Racing Edition (RE) and DJI Goggles?
A1:
1.  In addition to the 2.4GHz digital transmission band, the new DJI Goggles RE also supports the 5.8GHz band, which can avoid the usual inference on the more crowded 2.4GHz.
2. Goggles RE has redesigned the internal linear polarized omnidirectional antennas and added new external Pagoda antenna, a 5.8GHz single-frequency omnidirectional left hand circularly polarized (LHCP) antenna.
3. Goggles RE has restructured the radio communication strategy and video decoding algorithm to lower transmission latency to 50 ms* (with wireless transmission latency of less than 10 ms), ensuring smooth and reliable video transmission and avoiding video lag and disconnection from the digital video transmission system when operating in a normal environment.
4. Goggles RE supports analog transmission at any integer frequency between 5.650~5.925 GHz and analog video storage on a Micro SD card.
5. Goggles RE can store digital video on a Micro SD card.
6. Goggles RE supports local video playback and Sphere pano viewing, allowing users to turn their head to get a 360° view of the Sphere pano.
7. The facial pad has been redesigned and the headband has used new replaceable leather materials to make it even more comfortable to wear.

*When tested with a 480p video feed.


Q2: How long is transmission system latency on DJI Goggles RE?
A2:
Latency of the transmission system comes from latency in the camera, coding, wireless transmission, Vsync, display, and screen response.
1. According to testing results, a transmission system with the lowest latency has a latency ranging from 30-50 ms, while the latency of an ordinary transmission system ranges from 50-80 ms.
2. The Ocusync transmission system latency range is 50-70 ms, tested in an environment without interference and with a 480p 50fps video feed, with coding latency measured at approx. 5 ms and wireless transmission latency measured at <10 ms.


Q3: How many analog transmission frequency channels do DJI Goggles RE support?
A3:
DJI Goggles RE supports the 5.8GHz FPV Band A/B/E/F/C (Raceband), up to 40 channels in total.
It also receives up to of 275 integer frequencies between 5650~5925 MHz, in which Band C (Raceband) includes 8 channels and the channel interval is 27 MHz. It is recommended to choose Band C when flying multiple aircraft simultaneously.


Q4: Which DJI drones are compatible with DJI Goggles RE?
A4: DJI Goggles RE work with all the DJI drones compatible with the original DJI Goggles, including the Spark, Mavic Pro, Phantom 4 Series, and Inspire 2.

Q5: What's the SMA port on the body of the DJI Goggles RE for?
A5:
In addition to the four antennas built
into the original DJI Goggles, DJI Goggles RE are also compatible with three external antennas, which work with the built-in ones to support 5.8 GHz video transmission. The pagoda antenna connects to the SMA port on the Goggles' body. All three external antennas can connect to the OcuSync Air Unit.

Q6: Do DJI Goggles RE support any third-party flight controllers or remote controllers?
A6:

Yes.
Supported flight controllers: KISS, F3, F4, and Naze Supported remote controllers: X9D (FrSky), DEVO 10 (Walkera), T8FG (Futaba), T14SG (Futaba), WTF09sll (WFLY), and AT9S (RadioLink)


Q7: How can I view Sphere pano photos with DJI Goggles RE?

A7:
1. Sphere panos on SkyPixel can be downloaded to an SD card and viewed with Goggles in the Local Storage interface.
2. If Sphere panos are saved to a DJI aircraft, you can download the photos to Goggles RE from Aircraft Storage then view them in the Local Storage interface.
3. To view Sphere photos from a PC directly, go to http://www.skypixel.com and download them via DJI Assistant. Then you can view the photos in the Local Storage interface.


2. DJI OcuSync Air Unit
Q1: How many frequency channels does the DJI OcuSync Air Unit support?
A1:
1. Under Auto mode, the DJI OcuSync Air Unit automatically chooses a frequency among 105 channels available in the 5.8GHz frequency band and 63 channels available in the 2.4GHz frequency band.
2. Under Manual mode, the DJI OcuSync Air Unit supports 12 5.8GHz channels and 7 2.4GHz channels. Compared to analog video transmission, these frequency channels were designed to have lower interference between adjacent channels. Where simultaneously working analog video transmission systems can cause severe interference, the OcuSync Air Unit supports up to 19 simultaneously working systems.

Q2: What is the SD card slot for?
A2:
Videos recorded by the DJI OcuSync Air Unit will be stored on the SD card inserted into the Air Unit's SD card slot. Videos rendered from the live view will also save to the Goggles' SD card slot. Please note that these SD slots do not support hot swapping.  
Q3: Can I connect the Air Unit with any non-DJI camera?
A3:
No.
Q4: Does the OcuSync Air System support non-DJI antennas?
A4: Yes. However, we strongly recommend you do not use non-DJI antennas as compatibility problems may arise.
Q5: What batteries does the Air Unit support?
A5:
3S or 4S batteries.
Q6:  How do I update the video transmission module of the Air Unit?
A6:
Connect the video transmission module to a PC with a USB cable. Open DJI Assistant 2 and choose the firmware version you need. Proceed with the firmware update.
Q7: Can I remove the metal shell from the video transmission module to reduce weight?
A7:
No. The metal shell is used for cooling and fixing the device. It should not be removed.



3. DJI OcuSync Camera

Q1: Can I connect the camera to other devices other than the DJI OcuSync Air Unit?
A1: No.
Q2: Can I use the camera of the OcuSync Air Unit to take photos?
A2: No. But you can take screenshots of the camera view by pressing and holding the Goggles' touch pad with two fingers.


4. DJI OcuSync Antenna
Q1: What are the differences between the three compatible antennas?
A1:
DJI Goggles RE come with a set of three compatible antennas for different scenarios:
• Pagoda: This circularly polarized antenna performs best at 5.8 GHz.
• Cylindrical: Also circularly polarized, this antenna operates at 2.4 and 5.8 GHz for fully integrated performance.
• Dipole: Linearly polarized, this antenna operates at 2.4 and 5.8 GHz and is lightweight, allowing for a clear video feed at close distances.

Q2: Can I bend two antennas to make them cross each other?
A2:
No. Bending the antennas may permanently affect their service life and performance.
Q3: Can I remove the silicone cover from a Dipole antenna?
A3:
It is recommended you do not remove the silicone cover.
Q4: When using Goggles RE to receive analog video transmission, can I use antennas other than the official DJI Pagoda Antenna?
A4:
No. In many countries, local laws and regulations do not allow unofficial antennas to be used.

I'm very interested in using these for professional FPV racing!   
Can someone please answer my 2 questions?  

1 - what are each exact analog receiving frequencies?  Please list each channel.   (the FAQ claims 40 channels, but it also says the range is from 5650Mhz to 5925Mhz , which does not include several of the claimed 40 channels - so something strange is going on here)  

2 - Does the DJI goggle RE have an analog AUX video input ?   This is a requirement for many large FPV racing events because you need to use an external receiver that is placed further from the track than where the pilot is sitting in order to get a clean video signal without interference from the other 7 pilots in the race.

Hello, I am not sure if this is the right place but time constraint forces me to post here.

I am a San Francisco Student who ordered Dji Goggles Racing Edition yesterday, without any student discount. I tried looking for the goggles RE in the discount eligible product list but could not find it.

However, I would like to know if there is a student discount available on the Racing edition goggles. If there is, i can work no canceling my order and reordering.

Most fpv ground stations are analog video. We can usually connect goggles or a display with and av cable instead of an HDMI cable. I understand that HDMI is a better system but most of the long range fpv systems haven't switched to digital. As of right now analog gives greater range.

So, out of the box, my racing UAVs with F3 and F4 controllers (no matter which one) for example the betaflight F3 controller LINK: https://www.getfpv.com/betafligh ... l04A-hoCO58QAvD_BwE

will work right out of the box with "diversity switching" as it's always been known but you guys are calling FHSS or something, with a RunCam camera, Spectrum controller/DSMX receiver for control will work right out of the box?  

It's confusing because it says on the FHSS blurb that with the "Ocusync Module" it will jump from 5.8 to 2.4 and I understand that it will go farther with the Ocu module and camera but I don't care about that at the moment. I never got the original goggles because they didn't support 5.8.

So to be clear so I can place this order already, it will work with the above defined drone or any like it right out of the box with switching.  In other words, there is 5.8 and 2.4 (analogue and digital) right out of the box?

Also, with my Phantom 4 (not pro), can I use the HDMI (as long as I get the HDMI module)  and still control the software in the goggles from the headset (understand that I won't get head tracking which I don't care about) but will be able to control the software fully from the goggles with the HDMI module with not a ridiculous amount of latency?  

Thank you. If the answer to my questions on my racing drones are yes, I'm ordering today.

Also, if I order today, are they being sent out or is this going to be one of those things where I get it in June while I am hyped to get it now?

Oh, one more.  Will all my Pagoda antennas that I have here work or do I have to get the ones from DJI because they are listed as out of stock.  I am assuming they are the same.
So is there analog and digital built in out of the box even though it's not ocusync?  Or is it ocusync inside the Goggles but you need to get a break out box for a drone if you want to get the Mavic style distance out of the goggles on one of your DIY drones?  I am assuming it has digital and analog out of the box but want to be sure.

Thank you Grace, I appreciate your responses and attention to everything regarding the goggles but I must admit that this particular answer literally makes zero sense to me.

With all humility, I am sure it is something i am not reading correctly but this answer flies in the face of everything I know as a freestylist.

My question is, will it work with the almost 10 UAV's I've built with flight controllers ranging from F4s, F3a, Naze on my flame, Kiss. Basically I have a version with pretty much all of the "compatible controllers" but will they work WITH SWITCHING right out of the box on the RE.  Does the RE have 2.4 and 5.8 as purchased is my question so I can pull it out and connect to the race band with my RunCam Eagle (not a clone, very populat racing cam, not for imagery, I have a Session for that) and for example I used my non-clone BetaFlght F3 flight controller that I linked above.

"You need a USB to operate" is just confusing me.  I don't even know what that means in light of the question.  It's a compatibility question and I'm sorry but your answer makes literally zero sense to me in any way.

Again, please take this as kindly as possible.  I am sure I just phrased something wrong but the answer does not fit the question at all.  Nobody, even the "Goggles specialist" at the DJI studio here in Burbank knows the answer and I have yet to find a DJI engineer or someone that is familuar with race UAVs to answer this question which in the DIY community is a pretty basic one.

Let me put this one question and try (because I am know I am not this) more succinct.

Without buying any extra modules will I be able to use the analog and digital signal to FHSS switch from the available channels out of the box at 5.8 to 2.4 with flight controllers like F3, F4 an the like.  

In the alternative, will it switch from 2.8 to 5.4 on only analog channels if you need the OcuSync breakout module to get digitial (Esentually I just want to know that it is ready as is to be used by my currently buillt drones).  It would seem like the answer is yes based on the one video of the guy flying a Tiny Whoop, but he doesn't say if it's using FHSS but the analogue feed does look AMAZING in his video.

Hello! I'm Trying to map out the connections from the air unit to this flight controller.



The air unit video states:

UART Rx to OSD Tx
UART Tx to OSD Rx
SBus port to Rx port
Signal GND to GND

Can someone help me translate this in regards to my flight controller?

Sure hope we get a good video tutorial on connecting the Air unit to typical F3/F4 FC's  It looks straightforward enough but the details of connecting controller via the cable to RE Goggles and how that works with the menus to set the Air unit module modes is not explained.  What are the Air menus, what do they look like?  My message with these questions to DGI Support via the Facebook DJI Support page yesterday has not been answered yet and I wonder if it ever will be.  Hope some of the YouTube reviewers have answers soon.

This is exactly what I am trying to figure out myself but nobody of any substance has put out a review to show this.  I would order them immediately with the answer (of course being in my favor).

Here you go, this video goes through exactly how the Air unit connects to an Omnibus F4.  The hardest part to figure out was the OSD.  It isn't Betaflight OSD at all.  It's really UART Telemetry.  Let me know if you have any questions.

****IT IS IMPORTANT to say that this minimal discussion about how to hook up the breakout box so that you can theoretically get OcuSync power and distance in your drones is much more difficult than just getting the Goggles and then hooking them up to your local channel to fly your racers. I don't want anyone scared off that just flies and doesn't do a lot of builds or fixes.  I am certainly no expert (especially compared to some of the radio geniuses like Joshua Bardwell and the like on YouTube) but don't be afraid of the Goggles based on this discussion, it's very basic but sounds not.

I am confused,  What were you having problems with on the OSD?

Where to send it.  Betaflight has a whole OSD section where you can pick which bits of telemetry you want on there or not..  From Betaflight's GUI, the OSD couldn't be easier so I am so super confused as to what you are confused on with that.
EDIT: **OH, i see he got the proper connections to the flight board for you.  Please be aware that you need to have the schematics.  Shouldn't be that hard to figutre out on any board, and if what he is showing you works and it looks like it does based on the quick scan, use that info for the schematics of any board even if it's not the Omnibus F4.  A lot of people get stuck because they don't take the simple time it takes to read their schematics and know where the UARTS are and what each does and pay attention to their power distrubituon and all that.

@DJI-Grace Please answer the question that I have about compatibility with my drones that have a receiver for Spektrum DSMX.  You guys seem to support every single protocol, even some that SURPRISINGLY carriers like Walkera's infamously never supported protocol but you guys left out DSMX?  WHY????  I so want these but if I can't hook them up to my already functioning DIYs, then these are useless to me.   

Also, while I understand why someone might want to hook up OcuSync to their own board, I was thinking that was more of a niche that anything, unless they really get the latency that they say they get which would break the mold for racing, as people would start racing or digital frequencies a lot more.

Which brings me to my next question, is there no "diversity switching" right out of the box?  Is what you guys are calling FHSS "When encountering wireless interference, the OcuSync Module
will quickly and automatically switch between the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz channels to maintain unobstructed transmission.", the module in the Goggles is what will switch correct?  This has 2.4 and 5.8 in the OcuSync module that is obviously in the Goggles and therefore is doing the switching, even if you guys,  confusing  as its written, aren't actually streaming to a live link from a OcuSync breakout box on a drone.

It will switch with regular old WiFi receivers on a drone correct?  It is amazing I can't get a straight answer on this.  Somebody knows.  Somebody with basic knowledge of racing would know this.  This is basically a noob question but seems to have created havoc when I ask people from DJI who are, understandably, by and large, not racers (in the photo part anyway).  Racers have been using Naze for a decade.

Anyway, compatibility with my physical remote controller (not flight controller) would be great to know if I have before I buy these already and also if there is diversity switching out of the box or not.  PLEASE!  Thanks!!!!!!!

Will the improved latency (50ms at 480p) be apparent when using a Mavic Pro or Spark, or will you only get this improved latency when using the air system?

I don't want anyone scared off that just flies and doesn't do a lot of builds or fixes.  I am certainly no expert (especially compared to some of the radio geniuses like Joshua Bardwell and the like on YouTube) but don't be afraid of the Goggles based on this discussion, it's very basic but sounds not.

I would be happy to help, but it's really difficult to sort out what you are trying to do.  I think you are confusing and combing several features of the goggles.  

Diversity switching in FPV generally refers to multiple receiving antenna on your goggles for analog video transmissions.  These goggles have a single receive antenna.  Be default this is a left hand polarized pagoda antenna but that should not be difficult to change.  This however has nothing to do with the Ocusync Air module.

The Ocusync Air module is a digital transmit and receive devices and uses FHSS like your radio transmitter.  The same way you don't choose a channel on your Spektrum radio, you don't choose a channel on the Ocusync Air connection.  

The Ocusync Air module can be used in two different ways.

Option 1. As a digital Video Tranmitter.  In this case you will have a separate radio receiver on your vehicle and will continue to use your radio connected to it like you do now.  The camera is include and the only requirement is to power the Ocusyn Air module.  However, if available it is highly recommended to connect the (OSD) cables to a Uart on a flight controller so you can pull telemetry data from that module.  The confusing part as you mentioned is that most people expected this to be compatible with Betaflight OSD.  It is not.  But the telemetry data will allow you to display the voltage and FC orientation in your goggles display.  This essentially just replaces the camera and vtx from a traditional aircraft.

Option 2. You retain all the features of option 1, but also use the Ocusync Air module as a control receiver in your aircraft.  This requires you to connect to an SBUS connection on your flight controller.  It will not be capable of being using on an aircraft that doesn't have a SBUS compatible flight controller.  With this your radio is not actually transmitting directly to the aircraft, it is configured as a trainer/slave device and it sends a signal (I believe it is PPM) to the goggles through the trainer port on your radio and the headphone jack on the goggles.  The goggles then transmit using their own protocol (not DSMX, or Walkera, or FrSky) to the Ocusync Air module which then sends the signal via the SBUS connection to the flight controller.  While your Spektrum radio is not listed as compatible I believe if you have the right cable is will very likely work.  This would be the same cable that you use to connect your radio to a microphone phone on a PC to use with a simulator.  That is what we used to do in the days before USB (the stone age).

So, this is pretty much all demonstrated in the video linked above also.  I may need to do another that just goes into these points if it is continuing to confuse people.  Please let me know.
