There are many places to download music, not least of which is iTunes, individual pieces are cheap enough and can use such music for films for PRIVATE use, but what is private use? If you want to put a video on YouTube or share it on social media you should start considering the consequences that may range from YouTube removing the video to getting a subpoena for copyright infringement. This depends on the music, the copyright claims, the law and the country you are in.

If you want to find music for your video, go to https://www.jamendo.com/ and search under their Creative Commons section. There you will find several licenses that you can use. Including commercial use licenses. The easiest and safest license is the "Attribution-Only" - which means all you have to do is give a title credit shout out to the Musician with the song name, and that's that. Some CC licenses are Non-commercial only, so you need to check what they are offering.

There are innumerable sites on the internet for this theme and also for copyright free music, use google search and have fun, its an education.

Everything Dockater said, and...

Eric Matyas (www.soundimage.org) regularly publishes music segments which can be used copywrite free, so long as he's recognised in the video. Instructions for how to do this are on his home page.

I use his music exclusively, as there's something for all applications and moods. Two music options available - music segments of specific lengths (if longer than your video, you just have the editing software fade the track out), and looping tracks (you just repeat the segments, then fade the last out).

Dockater said well.

About iTunes - you can`t use it properly, because it`s not provide you needed license for using music for your video. In this case royalty free music sites much more precisely.
I am using - acousticbro.com. Also, you can find there several licenses that you can use. Including free licenses. For that license all you have to do is give a credit shout out to him with the song name, and that's it.

You can use almost anything you want for your youtube hobbyist videos.  The youtube restriction is that you can't monetize (make money) with the vid, and any funds that might be made belong to the music artist or the record company.  This policy has been in place for at least a couple years now.

There are some exceptions - mostly older bands from the 60s and 70s such as Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, etc.  If you try to use them, the video will be muted.  But they are in the far minority.  It's probably something like 95% - you can use 95% of the music you happen to already own.

If you want to check in advance, just plug in the artist / song here in the search and it'll tell you whether you can use the track or not.

Good luck.

I use FreeMusicArchive almost exclusively - but recently have had Copyright / Monetisation claims against FMA clips I've used.

I am also finding that very old classical music is now coming up with some clever **** has claimed rights to ... Handels Water Music being a good example. For long time I have used such for some of my videos ... to find last couple of months objections from them.

Seems that todays world is only about grabbing what isn't theirs and making money !

I don't mind and in fact I encourage naming the Artist on my videos as they deserve recognition for the composition - but what I do object to is placing on sites such as FMA and then claiming rights that spoil the whole purpose of such online sites.

Rant over !!
