I don't notice Mavic needs multiple directions to calibrate the IMU until now?

That's how I've always calibrated my IMU. How were you doing it before? Btw that video is from 2016, so this is definitely not something new.

I tried calibrating just by standing on the ground. thankfully, there was nothing wrong.

It will just time out and fail the cal - be sure to read the manual

There are a few out there who overlook reading the manual and watching the DJI tutorial videos .
  

I learned this the first time I tried to calibrate the IMU.  I let it sit there on it's side for about 30 minutes before i realized that it was waiting for me to turn it to the next position!

Thanks.  That's good to know.  Because I sure felt a special kind of stupid when I realized.  I was at home, alone, and still looked around to see if anyone was watching!
