Today, President Trump signed the bill making Federal registration of unmanned aerial systems (UAS - drones and all other R/C aircraft weighing between 0.55 and 55 lbs) a requirement, once again. For hobbyists, that means you register yourself, the pilot, and put your registration number on all your aircraft. There is no exception for AMA members.

Similar bill is being signed off by the UK government here too for next year + we’ll have to pass a test - even for recreational/leisure use only.

In Denmark - same thing.
From January 2018, we must not fly closer than 150 meter (492 feet) to all public roads. This applies regardless of whether there is traffic on the road or not.

150m rule away from congested areas applies in the UK already - busy public roads are considered part of that rule. I think that’s a sensible rule TBH - imagine if the drone lost a prop over a motorway and crashed into a car windscreen doing 70MPH... could be fatal! It will only take one fatality for drones to be banned all together!

I for one respect a level of regulation, as long as it is reasonably thought out.
To require registration and fixing the reg. number: no problem with that, makes a lot more sense than having to affix name, address and phone number to the drone as the stupid rules in Canada require (although I keep hoping that the final legislation will also be some sort of registration number).

We all saw this coming...

i registered when we first had to is that still valid? how long does it last for til renewal? is there even a renewal process?

If you have met someone in a tunnel with their drone in front of the car you would understand the rule.
It happened here in Iceland last summer. I'm almost sure that rule will be in Iceland soon.

Yes, it's completely crazy. It is a small country with relatively many people, and for that reason also relatively crowded in many places. It is severely limited where you can fly legally in 2018, when even dirt roads and other almost insignificant roads can no longer be flown nearby.
