Yes, our drones perspective can bring back wonder and enthusiastic interest in visiting old haunts, from above. We have a wonderful birds eye view now.

I wholeheartedly agree! I missed out on a cracking frost scene yesterday. If only battery technology would improve to allow cells to be safely stored fully changed long term!

Just do your frequent battery mainenance, and be ready for all to come at you, bro...

On average there are 29 shots, sometimes a few more if multiple exposures or additional helper shots are needed to minimise frames of only sea and sky (nightmare to stitch but I managed to get an unbroken sea horizon eventually!)

After a flight I put them onto a charger in storage mode so that they all sit safely at 50% and don’t take so long to charge when needed. The three of them still take about 2 hours to charge and with the little daylight and unreliable weather, I take some convincing before charging them up. At least I’m on holiday now so have leisure access to daylight hours

You can always drain those flight packs, by utilizing your onboard flight SIM.

That’s true! I spent a lot of time on the sim in atti mode in the the early days. I tend to plan ahead nowadays, charging a battery for each planned flight with no reserve batteries. That came about when I realised I had about 30 non-flight cycles on my 3rd battery due to having to discharge it.

Having said that, I’m never prepared for a short notice excursion as I have to wait for a battery to charge up!

Maybe one day we will get rapid charging batteries that are intrinsically safe, not to say that LiPo cells are not already a remarkable energy source if treated carefully.

We all have our own systems of preparing for a flight, where we try to be as ready as posible, but some here need to finalize the plan, with a battery top off... ;-)

However you feel comfortable.

Indeed! I always top off my batteries the same day before flight - you just never know if you've got a weakening/self discharging cell waiting to ruin your day! In this colder weather, I treat them gently - no high power manoeuvres and let the battery warm up before venturing out to where it won’t land softly

You can use a pocket or boot warmer, to keep your flight packs and fingers toasty...

You're very welcome.  I wish I would have had a drone when I was stationed in Thurso, Scotland.  But then again the winds were always so strong there probably wouldn't have gotten in much flying time.

You're probably right about the wind! It was surprising how the few sunny days we got were a bit too windy as well.  I used to keep a list of places I wanted to fly at and keep an eye on the forecast so that I had enough time to charge up 3 flight batteries the night before!
Good photography and flying days were rarer than expected...

That's a really nice 360.
