I had been hoping for a sensible discussion on this topic.
I'm not advocating hacking the DJI App, but from what I've read on other sites I can see why other pilots do it.
Might have been more interesting than what colour is my Spark, or do I fly with prop guards. Certainly more interesting than the conspiracy theories that DJI want to control my drone/brain.
Your scenario is the reason why I ending up searching, finding and installing the FCC App.
For me, it never has been about breaking rules or being rebellious, it's been about video signal stability (and WiFi strength) within the CE/EU range rules. I don't want to fly silly heights or distances....I do however want a video signal within clear LOS range. The FCC hack, plus the use of OTG (my hacked App is 4.1.15), allows me to do all of those things.
Yes, there are iresponsible flyers who might abuse it, but those folk exist on the normal App too...plus the dangerous flyaways reported on these forums are on latest firmware and Apps, so I'm not buying that argument.
I blame DJI 100% for this situation, I have emailed them, raised issues in these forums but they will not commit to anything in terms of improving the performnce for Android/UK customers.
By their lack of actions, they are pushing Spark flyers underground, which is such a pity.
I suspect they assumed Spark flyers would accept the Spark as a selfie drone (£700 LOL ) or upgrade to the Mavic if we liked the hobby.
They've misjudged the market big style in my opinion and are now trying to dumb down the Spark's capabilities with these updates...but it's too late....the genie is out of the bottle :-) |
