Looking for recommendations on water activated life rings that weight around one pound

What for? That's a lot of weight to carry around.

Take it from someone that flies over the ocean most of the time ...
You don't want to lumber your Phantom by carrying a 1 pound weight penalty.
The loss of performance and flight time would be more likely to cause the loss of the Phantom than the fear that motivates you to do this.

Hi Bob, it is not recommended to add extra weight as it may affect the performance. I'd suggest to do a fully pre-flight checklist to reduce the risk.

Simple foam floats displacing about 2 liters of water will do, thats a lot less than 1 lb. But what is the point, if your ac gets immersed in saltwater it is dead anyway,

There are in fact a lot of products available for water launching and landing drones, also for the phantom 4. Try google - floats for a phantom 4 - then images. Its good for a laugh.

I got the impression from the OP other thread about using a Life saving drone along a beach that when he wanted auto flotation devices this would be for people in distress,

That would make sense, given the way the OP posed the question.

If you are looking at lifesaving operations, you'll need a bigger drone than a Phantom.
