DJI should just opensource already.  We should have the right to do with our hardware what we wish. Remember the Apple ordeal?  Let the nerds repackage custom firmwares or "hack" together better software.

Wow!! Now that is impressive! If I ever win the lotto, I might have to look into that.

It already pretty much is open source. You can download the SDK from them and develop your own app.
It just requires a lot of work and knowhow.

Look at Litchi or Autopilot. All made from the SDK and changed. What you want is just to take their work and change it for your own solution.... Thats just lazy.

A SDK is not source and making an App wont change FW flaws.

@OP:
Most of the FW is build out of OS, DJI just have ignored the OS license terms and keep hiding the source changes where they shouldn't.
I am sure you can find some old source as base for a new build, you just have to figure out what components to code against and a way to flash it.
