Hmm. Please keep this to yourself.  So far, we haven't had anyone do this in the Pacific.   

OMG a thread dedicated to me, now that really is cool. I must say though, now I have  seen the film and realize how awful it really is where you are, I have a very bad conscience. No more thread kidnapping, well ............ perhaps just a tiny bit.

I used to fly in military helicopters over Rainbow Beach (many years ago lol). Is the wreck of the 'Cherry Venture' still there? It was an awesome fishing platform. * hex *

Unfortunately it was removed years ago because a bunch of do gooders thought someone might stub their toe on it. I have heard that some bits which were deeply buried become exposed with the king tides.

We had a military helicopter buzz us yesterday, so low you see the badges on the shoulders of the flight crew, the scary part is well within my flight level for my drone. Ever so often they fly past here in formation and oh so low. I am sure my little drone would not stand a chance!

Well another day gone by, I threw this together as a reply, sort of different conditions than yours. Your walkabout thing is cool, its great to have the oportunity to just get away. I managed to get around and keep my profession but it still meant sacrifices. All the best.

Rainbow Beach is quite close to the Shoalwater Bay Military Training Area.  I often flew below tree top height (following roads) in a Chinook helicopter for long distances in that location. (Sometimes I was the muppet hanging out of the door with the M60 machine gun) ... Just be very careful when flying any kind of RPV in that area as it might not show up as an NFZ due to a few reasons including a military exercise where one does not know the other (bad) guy's flight plans.

It's a beautiful place but please use maximum caution when flying near there.

Rainbow beach is Queensland Australia, 200km north of Brisbane. The coloured sands here are awesome

Thanks, it certainly adds a level of complexity to flying here. There is paragliders , parachutists, lower flying planes and the military, always some thing! Lol
