Hi All,

2 days ago I went out and filmed a video, a minute or two long. Today I extracted the video and played it back on the computer it's very choppy I read it could be the SD card but I’m using "SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDXC 64GB Class 10 U3 95 MB/s"

The current settings are:
Video Size: 2.7K 24fps
Video Format: MOV
NTSC/PAL: PAL
White Balance: Auto
Style: None
Color: D-Log
Filter: ND4/PL

Here's a link to the a video (unedited straight off the SD) i took outside my how just now, with above settings and the ND4/PL.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/y9pbywmds58w12h/DJI_0001.MOV?dl=0

Firmware version: V01.04.0100 upgrading to .0200 now

EDIT: PS Upgrading made no changes what so ever.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ll5com1h2k7n4tl/DJI_0002.MOV?dl=0

EDIT 2: I did 2 more flights just to check i tried in 1080 at 24fps and 50fps both still very bad.
At 24 fps: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ibvrxuldzom2sn1/DJI_0003.MOV?dl=0
At 50 fps: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0mq4866h9xdwo2x/DJI_0004.MOV?dl=0

EDIT 3: Did another video as requested by DJI at 2.7K 24fps only settings that are different is the Style: Custom +1, -1, -1

No i didn't for this video, but i have another video using a ND 4/PL and the video is the same.

It is also choppy on the iPhone too if that's relevant or not.

Maybe try the Sd card that came with the Mavic. To me it looked a little out of focus . What frame rate were you using.

The one that came with i can't find and it's lower rated, so shouldn't be the issue? (I did format the new SD Card)

Try not to pan that fast.
You will see the frames skipping when panning that fast.
Also, try a shutterspeed of 1/50 (when recording 24fps)

Are you using the cached footage from your phone or is this directly from the card, plugged into your computer via a card reader? That first clip looks like its cached footage.

@Montfrooij, I've current left the actual camera settings as auto. Should this really be controlled manually to stop it form happening? Also, is there a way to limit the speed of the rotation of the drone? I did do a 1080 50fps but it seems to make no difference if it's at 24 fps or 50 fps.

@Malakai_UK, This is footage straight from the card, as other threads I've read they normally request the unedited version. I got them for this path (on a Mac): /Volumes/Untitled/DCIM/100MEDIA

it looks to me as though the jumpiness in yr clip is the result of panning too fast. Panning in sport mode at full stick or even half stick will do that every time. You might do better with quick pans at 1080p 60fps but still full stick in sport mode will be jumpy.

Your clip is also over exposed (it appears) and this contributes to the effect of jumpiness - although it is yr pan speed the is the primary problem

If you look at the Dropbox links i provided (these are in D-Log, colour grading would be done later) i have done a comparison against 2.7K and 1080 at different fps doesn't make a difference. Also, i'm only lightly touch the stick for the pan.

Hi Stevens, just to verify, does the issue remains if the drone is in hover status? I'd suggest change to another open location and hover for a certain time to check the exact status. Also, please kindly upload the original video of SD card and share the link with us, we'd like to help.

Hi Susan,
If you read you’ll see I’ve already added the links to the footage from Dropbox above.

I’ll try and take some more footage later today/tomorrow.

The current settings are:

I can't see anything wrong with your video other than you are panning too fast and you are not focusing properly. What program are you using to view the video on your PC? How are you focusing?

Hi jenee, I'm using QuickTime on a MacBook Pro 2016 Model: i7/16GB Ram running High Sierra

I have done another video at 2.7K 24 fps only settings that are different from the others are:
Style: Custom +1, -1, -1
https://www.dropbox.com/s/exen1i5bm1h70v3/DJI_0005.MOV?dl=0

You see I'm hardly panning at all, about half way you see me, with my finger hardly pushing the joystick, but you can still see the choppy/jumpy footage really bad. If i put any less of a pressure, the drone wouldn't pan.

For focusing I'm just using the tap to focus or the C1 button.

You can also see a lot of noise in the video if that because of the D-Log?

You can see it a bit windy but don't think that had anything to do with it.

I've completely reset the drone/settings, did IMU calibration and compass then did another test with everything with base settings and no ND filter, still the same....

DJI any help please?

I've also now used 3 different SD Card:
  • SanDisk Ultra 64GB - i use from my GoPro at 4K never had issue but same issue
  • SanDisk Extreme 16GB - originally came with drone (managed to find it) same issue
  • SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB - one i used for all the test videos above.

I tested all of these at 1080 @ 24 fps just to make sure it's not a writing speed issue between cards, they all turned out the same all jumpy the same as above.

  • Hi Stevens, I would like to have our engineers to check your video, and I will get back to you once I hear anything, please wait patiently.

The jumpy ("judder") feeling is because you are panning the camera too fast while there is no static object for the audience to focus on. If you look at the video frame by frame, you can see that there are no dropped, duplicate, or misplaced frames. This means the capturing and encoding in the drone is working properly.

Besides using slower panning, it is common practice in video shooting to avoid such mere panning and make the camera movement coordinated with the main object or person you want to show. For example, the camera could follow a runner or a car and keep their position steady in the frame, yet leaving the background in motion. In this way the audience will be less likely to notice the judder in the background caused by panning.

    Thanks for the update.

While i find it hard to believe that this amount of judder is from the panning along (at the slowest possible speed), i guess i don't have any other option than to just agree...

I have noticed judder on my Mavic Air footage without panning involved. I would call it more of a stutter. Here is my first post on skypixel and its nearly undetectable since the footage was compressed. https://www.skypixel.com/videos/stony-run-in-baltimore

I can see a couple of small hiccups in the footage. I originally though the drone was being buffeted by wind but after watching it a few times it seems like its the capture:

    I am using this SD card: https://www.amazon.com/gp/produc ... =UTF8&psc=1

    Thoughts?

Waaay too fast panning at 24fps. The issue in compounded because the subject is so close to the lens.
