With two tested systems, Inspire 1 Pro with x5 and Inspire 2 with X5s,
it is not possible to take RAW photos for mapping.

- DJI Go app running in background, RAW file format selected.
- RAW selected in Ground Station Pro.
- Upload mission, fly mission, only JPG photos taken.
- Check camera settings in DJI Go  and Ground Station Pro, now it is JPG!

Can it really be that RAW can be selected and not used?

Since there is no response for 3 weeks, it looks like the question has now been answered to the satisfaction of DJI.

There is no reference to Raw format on the Ground Station Pro. You may not be able to use it.

Yes, nevertheless RAW can be selected.
Actually, I got a reply from DJI support:
only JPG is required for mapping, if you want RAW use waypoint mode.
Looks like another one of those inexplicable DJI product features.

Hey DJI,

I have also troubles with RAW recording. Why is it not possible to record in Cinema DNG with the Inspire2 and the X5S gimbal. Only the SD card is displayed in the app and the SSD does not even appear?
I want to use it with waypoints set before flight for timelapse.

I am also very unhappy that one cannot image in RAW in a mapping mission.  Hopefully DJI will remedy this in a future release.
