Unpopular rant ahead, but I think the rule change is good. What it does is take things back to the way things were on youtube before the advertisers ever got involved... people made videos on a given subject because they ENJOYED it, or felt very strongly about reaching out to that subject's community. Being paid for those videos wasn't a motivator, and you know what? THEY STILL MADE VIDEOS.
Even before the new rules change, the majority of "content creators" had a snowball's chance in hell of making more than about $4 per year in youtube ad revenue, unless they already had large social media followings elsewhere or corporate sponsorship as an "influencer" and could get on the VIP ad network within youtube.
The fact that you guys all have to trade subs like they were little more than facebook or instagram connections should be your first clue to just how diluted and crowded the platform has become. I'm not saying don't make videos, please do if that's what you enjoy (I do, too)... I'm just getting tired of hearing people complain about the bubble suddenly being burst on the pipe dream of making money from ad revenue on youtube.
It comes down to one of the general rules of life: If you find out about an interesting and enjoyable way to make money, by the time you've heard about it that system has already been gamed by the many people who found out about it before you did.
99.999% of creators were never going to make a penny, so these rules don't really change a single thing for any of you. It's harsh, i know, but it's just statistics. Drone channels are no exception. |
