I currently have the spark and one selling point to me on this drone was the ability to be charged on a power bank.
Anyone know if Mavic Air and its RC are okay to charge using powerbank?

I am certain the remote would be but not the battery due to it's capacity. I'm sure DJI admin will clarify if we ask nicely......

Think I'll get away with my 27000mAh portable powerstation, from RAVpower though.

A typical battery pack designed to charge a phone won't provide enough power to charge a Mavic Pro or Air battery.

Instead you'll have use something more powerful, like in this video... skip to 11 mins...

Yep, that’s why the RAVpower should be ok - 100W AC output, with 2 smart USB and a USB Type C. I use it for everything battery powered

Looking at the specs, it appears to be 60W.

Thanks, Lostlogik. Now, my RAVpower 23000 mAh from two years ago doesn't have an AC output; it can do output voltage at 9, 12, 16, 19, or 20 V. Somewhere else I read that the Mavic Air battery likes to charge at 13.7 V. So what output voltage do you actually use? 12? 16? I want to make sure I'm safe from damaging the battery before I take your advice.

I don't have the Mavic Air but everything advertised states that you can NOT charge the drone via its Micro USB Type "C".

I'd imagine the RC is similar to the Spark, which I've charged through an external battery.

The fact that the Spark charges with its Micro USB made it the preferable drone purchase for me. That was the biggest selling parts with its charging usability.

Trial and error but it needs to be close as possible to the 13.7 volts or above

The posts above are correct.  You cannot charge the Mavic Air with a USB-C charger.  The USB-C port is only for data transfer.
Here is a link to the  Mophie PowerStation AC that is mentioned in the video. - http://www.mophie.com/shop/powerstation-ac?a92=12   I'm sure there are other options available as well.

I don't know how many charges you will get out of it, or how long it will take, but it is an option that will allow you to use your existing power block, and ensure that your batteries are getting the proper voltage.

"Or above".  How far above could it be without overloading and damaging something?  Do you think 16V is ok?

UPDATE: 27000mAh portable powerstation, from RAVpower arrived today. It charged ONE Mavic Air battery and only had about 10% charge left to be used to charge anything else. For $200 it’s not worth it at all. Returning tomorrow and just buying another DJI intelligent battery for the air. Disappointed.

That is quite weird, the Mavic Air battery has: 27.43 Wh of energy and that RAVPower has 96.48 Wh, so even if the system wastes 50% in overheads you should be able to charge around 2 fully empty batteries.

Dont buy the RavPower 27000 mAh AC charger if you're expecting to use it as a real travel charger. After a week of emailing with "Kaye" from customer support,  he finally helped with the power consumption calculation. Based on his calculations, and the performance I experienced, the PowerBank only lasts "1.4" charges of the Mavic Air battery.

Stating "with a huge 27000mAh capacity they’re good for several drone battery charges and many hours of flight. " Seems dishonest.

This is disappointing. I think the advertisement of this as a real charging option is questionable at best - especially with a photo of the Mavic Air and this charger.

For the cost of  around $200 CAD it is better value to buy 2 DJI Intelligent batteries and save lugging this around during travel. Disappointing.

Can you share these calculations?

Sorry just saw this post.

His (RavPower Support's) Calculations:

"Labeled capacity of the power bank x 3.7 / output voltage of power bank) x 0.85 / battery capacity of device = Total number of recharges

But the AC port's output is 110v.  For example, if your device is 60w, it can charge your device,

100w/60w*0.85(the Minimum wastage when the voltage increases)= 1.4 times."

When I used the battery, powerbank numbers on the back and plugged into their formula I got 0.32...

Sorry just saw this post.

His (RavPower Support's) Calculations:

Hi Proteus, I use a 98Wh powerbank with a MAvic car charger and it is able to charge 2 discharged batteries. Given I use it when traveling outdoor and having also a 40W solar panel, I'm almost energy self sufficient and independent of the electrical power network.
The model I use is Litionite® Tanker Mini 25000mah Power Pack. There are also more powerful, higher capacity models, but I tried to keep below the 100W power to be able to carry it on board of airplanes.

For less than 100Wh no permit required. With previous airline approval can carry up to 2 batteries each being less than 160Wh.

You're welcome ! Wish I had helped. In my opinion, when not dealing with a several days overland trip where electricity is not available and have to rely on powerbanks and solar panels, for single day trips, with no more than 5-6 flights/day, is better to invest in batteries rather than in powerbanks.

IDC so much about power banks as the ability to USB-C charge in general. I forgot the AC cable part of my charger set on a trip, and a MacBook Pro charger is still useless.

Glad to see so many people also wanting charging through the USB-C in the Mavic Air.

I also have the same ravpower pack and had been using it with my spark to charge all 3 batteries at the same time via the charging hub plugged into the AC port. I have recently upgraded to the Mavic air and am wondering what way is fastest to charge the batteries with the ravpower 27000mAh pack? Plug the hub into the AC port? Or 2 batteries directly seperately into the 2 USB ports?
