I really like traveling with my Mavic, going places, climbing peaks...
But yesterday I really overdo it start from a valley few km away from the mountain and went in a direction of famous 7 Rila lakes  - a Beautiful area with actual 7 gorgeous lakes.
I was well aware that is no way to reach them - but just start a flight in a direction and steal enjoy it a lot

~70 km away just on the other side of the snowy mountain visible at the end (Vitosha)

I have done it some 30 years ago so not very well informed. Recently was doing 4x4, droning, biking and occasional walks but for a day at most.
But there many trails, many huts, easy access ... plenty to chose from.
When I was student we use to celebrate each new year's eve at above 2000 meters - was fun

I did my first 7k+ (and most likely the last one ) in 40+ age range. So I guess it's never late.
But I totally agree that with age and bones getting older we should replace 2 x 2 (2 crampons, 2 axes)  with 4x4, lol.

There rumors for upcoming EU regulations, but other than that common sense apply
And now Sofia is mostly NFZ because of EU chairmanship.
But around it's OK - Vitosha, Stara Planina, Liulin all surrounding mountains
