If you drive long distances between flight locations then the car charger will be very useful but if, like me, most of your flight locations are within a 30 minute drive of your house and you don't fly commercially then I found it quite pointless. In fact, I used it once in the 3 months I owned it.
This is obviously a very personal decision.
For me, I fly a great deal at the lake near my house. the lake is less than a 10 minute drive from my house. But if i want to fly at the lake longer than 1 hour, i need to be able to recharge batteries on the go. I don't want to leave the lake just to charge up.
Many years ago, i bought a power inverter to use in the car for my laptop. I simply use that, and the standard chargers for the Mavic Air and it's about as mobile as i can get right now for very little money.
I now own 4 batteries and 2 chargers. It seems like a good number. When battery 1 dies, it goes on the charger in the car. I then have 1 hour before that battery is fully charged to fly again. It's a pretty good system as long as i'm not too far from the car. I can cycle batteries and fly for 2 hours before i need to break. I break for about 45 mins to an hour and i'm back in the air. during that break, i take time and transfer the video from the MA to my computer, and also charge the controller and the phone.
I'm looking into a powerbank that i can travel with in the event that i'm not close enough to run back to the car. but that's another $150 - $200. |
