In this respect we are lucky, friend of my was doing research and found more than 39 mountains in Bulgaria (some sources name more than 200 ) thou well known are ~10
Only surrounding Sofia (highest capital in EU) are 4 (and I mean less than 1-5km away!) and only 70km away is the highest peak (a little shy of 3000m)...

I spend sometimes in front of google maps choosing where to go, not very far - no time for this, but nice and scenery - Not an easy task You know
Have in mind some gorgeous places but 500 km in direction need time
