Hello

You might of heard my woes. I’m on my 3rd CS having the dreaded Backlight fails.

My replacement CS is only about 60 serial numbers higher than my last one.

Now it’s arrived with the old 4.1.15 firmware and is asking me to date.

Should I stay or should I Go  ( lol..The Clash 1982 ) ?

I would miss out on Panorama for my Mavic.

The notes to 4.1.18 says helps with overheating.

My last unit fried twice on 4.18 but would it have still have failed as well on 4.15 anyway.?

Iannes from this forum is thinking the heating problem from the cashe.

He tested his yesterday with the cashe turned off.
He said the fan still came on the unit but it seemed much cooler.

It’s not the end of the world if I update and it fails again more an pain.

Please let me know what you think.

Cheers

Marty

I also own CS Ultra.
Mine is up to date.
Mine doesn't work more than 20min in outdoor conditions: I mean from 10AM to 3PM in sunny condition because overheating.
4.1.18 doesn't fix overheating for Ultra's serie.

If 4.1.15 work well, I advice you to keep the old one, and wait a more stabilized version

What is better:
* using Panorama Feature for Mavic but with 20min flight time max?
* flying few hours and doing manuals Pano?

good luck !

Hi Yoyoman.

Thanks for your advice.

When you say your CS doesn't work past 20 mins during the day in sunny conditions
Does it just shut down or
Do you turn it off after that ??
Do you get a warning?

I've had backlight 3 fails, one 5.5 & two 7.85 ultra's
With no warning early in the flight, the screen goes dark and the backlight fails.
You can see the screen with a torch but never fixes its self.

Thanks for letting me know

As you can see the link I've shared, Mindy admited that the overheat is a known issue, and should be fixed in the next firmware.
That's why I wont fly again with my Ultra until the next firmware. I don t want it burns !!!
I also have 7,8 "normal" and still not noticed overheat issue. But, I didn t try in the same hot & sunny condition.

Yes, it would be good to put this heat issue to rest.
It’s the middle of summer here in sunny Brisbane Australia

Maybe DJI should have a letter of acknowledgement and issue a statement  so we aren't left in the dark. I have had this problem and returned for a new one. If indeed its a firmware fix as Mindy had said, then maybe these units should be grounded until firmware is issued to correct

Can't agree more.
At the moment:
Z30 + X4S grounded
M210 grounded
Crystalsky Ultra grounded
Cendence grounded
20 * TB50 / TB55 grounded (no feature to discharge them with charger... to safe storage...........)

I'm happy because they "appreciate my patience".................................

My CS Ultra which has been getting hot but has not had any screen issues has a build date of  15/10/17, I wonder if the build date has any relevance to the screen failures.

You can check yours , thanks to Msinger

Ok.
Firmware updated.
Went for a test flight this arvo
28c with a good breeze
CS settings
Auto brightness turn off &  set to 25% brightness.
Video Cashe turned off
Flew for 70% Mavic battery
Came back in
Then flew for 1 Spark Battery
Came back into
No signs of overheating
I didn’t notice the fan come on and no heat in the hdmi port

So, so far so good

Was not fun, It’s terrible when you have no confidence in your equipment.

There are a few of us going for a fly tomorrow.

I’ll give it a good test then

Hi,

I also have no problem using Ultra at Home with low brightness.
But the point for someone who buy an Ultra is to use high (max) brightness at sun.
That's why I'm happy you're happy, but this is not a revelant test for me.

Need to see someone using CS Ultra in brightness max in direct sun for more than 1 hour.

I also have a "normal" 7.8 CS, and still no problem, so, maybe the prob with the Ultra version appears when Brightness is at max or high

Hey Yoyoman, never said I was happy ?
I said it’s not fun when you have no confidence in your equipment
It was not a test, I didn’t want to fry my  4th one.

With your high brightness have you ever flown it in full sun on the screen.?
Did it do the job?
I’m thinking maybe these ultras are overkill for a hobbyist like me who likes to see clearly on the screen while chasing boats & jet skis ?

The ultra did the job well in direct sun, around 35°, miday. I saw clearly my screen even with my sunglasses, and was able to param well my camera and I flawn for 18min until it became too hot, and waring msg pop up..
DJI Mindy told me to "just" reboot and continue to use it... but I'm not really confident in this kind of easy answer.

Sorry Mate,
Start again
I was referring to the High Brightness model CS (I’ve had a Ultra for a couple of months)
I just wondering how the standard model goes in full sun.
Does it do a reasonably good job still heaps better than an IPad ?

oh sorry ! my mistake !
I get the high Brightness with my M210 kit and then I bought the Ultra one, because it was not enough confortable for me to fly in direct sun.
When using high Brightness  I have to find the right monitor angle to see clearly and I can't use sunglasses.

BUT... it does the job, it s really far better than Ipad or other Android device: But I'm not sure the overheating issue wont appear with this model ^^

Just as I though, Heaps better than a IPad but not good for full sun work.
I’m a flyer not a Photographer, I fly during the day around 10am-2pm.I had a 5.5 first and I then upgraded to the Ultra.
You have to be able to fly with your Maui Jim’s on.

Thanks Yoyo
