Aloha Toorboy,
It must be a world wide phenomenon. Here it is sun and a lot of wind, a lot of wind, rain and a lot of wind, rain, and rain and sunshine - yes, we do get rain and sunshine, but not a lot of sunshine like we get wind. This is the Windward side of the island after all.
I have not flown for fun for at least a month, but even building and working on the Matrice 100 or helping my friend learn about his Obsidian is still a lot of fun. My batteries need to be charged and from what I see on this Forum, I have upgrades and updates to do. Maybe I can do those today.
It does not help that I have had to order parts and rebuild my desktop computer. That is not as much fun as it used to be. But, custom built desktop computers are really amazing and very cheap by comparison. If you can assemble or design and build a DJI drone, you can build a custom desktop computer.
The DJI products we fly are much more fun, even when we have to work out problems. Rebuilding and building computers always involves problems to be solved. Now, the Matrice 100 had to be built and that was much like building a computer. With weight distribution issues, we have also had to rebuild the Matrice at least once. For desktop computers, heat distribution is the main problem. For custom drones, weight distribution is a major issue.
The test flights have been interesting, definitely different from the Phantoms! The worst of our Phantoms are really nice birds! Our Phantoms really define what the new flying camera market is all about. The smaller ones do more radical things but with less camera quality, and the larger and custom drones carry better and more versatile cameras and other equipment, but you cannot hot-dog very well with them. Sometimes, the larger and custom drones are a team effort with dual remote controllers, but the Phantoms have Intelligent Flight Modes that pretty much remove the need for a second remote controller.
So, like you I have been mostly indoors but warmer I am sure. With my desktop, I have my video editing programs available again, so I have a lot to keep me busy. Still a pain making or getting music though.
Good to see your videos to the Forum again. That was cool seeing the skiers hiking up to get to the snow. They need a pocket drone like a Mavic or Spark to find a primo route down though. You can only see so much from the hiking trail. And if they end up in an unexpected area, they can find a way back or out with the eyes in the sky. I bet when they saw your Phantom, at least one of them had that thought! Good marketing for DJI!
