i have the gps on my phone (galaxy s4) and all the other modes work (point of interrest/active track).  

when it goes on follow me, the drone doesn't move.  it says weak GPS goes into "P" mode or something.

can't figure it out.  drone is brand new?  

Are you sure gps is enabled in your phone settings?

i'm positive.

i've also done a ton of updates over the last month and all the firmware is updated.

Can you post a screenshot of your location settings?

Of the settings where you enable gps. You might have WiFi location on but gps off. I did notice the S4 is not on the compatible device list.

Follow Me requires more sat locks on the ground than the Mavic needs to fly, so that can be a challenge, but even when you have enough locks, it still doesn't really work all that well. For those who can get it to perform, there might be some helpful use cases, but for me Active Track is so much better, and you don't have to worry about the camera not covering your subject.

seems to me i shouldn't be having this much difficulty using one of the primary functions on a $1,000 machine....

Dji drones just use GPS for location nothing else. If you use something else you just get weak GPS message.

Try turning on developer options and debugging mode

i tried it in the middle of nowhere by a levee and also in a park in the middle of Sacramento.  It hasn't work anywhere.

i've been reading nothing but complaints about the follow me not working on various devices.  i'm wondering if a class action against DJI is the works or has already been filed.  This is a main feature of the DJI Mavic Pro which is (i feel) the main selling point.  it should work out of the box.

Follow me is an old, classic intelligent flight mode that was one of the original flight modes that creates a tether to the GPS in the device to follow the device (not the pilot). You need a strong GPS signal, a clear line without obstruction between the drone and device (over head) and the drone needs to be in P-mode (which means GPS positiong mode - it won't work in Sport mode or auto atti mode) and as you walk holding the RC in your hand the drone will follow you (though more specifically the device you are holding). I've used it several times without any problems in over thousand flights though I use an iPhone 7+. I wouldn't consider it a main feature in fact, it's the least popular feature.

Is the follow me different than the Active Trak or whatever it is called?

I used the active trak feature to follow my kid running around a track and he didn't have the controller on him...
