I would go with screw on types, one less thing in front of the camera to potentially distort or change the image. No additional chromatic aberrations introduced.
Another thing I found was just a touch (the merest 'thought') of petroleum jelly on threads helps removal and replacement. The stock filter is a UV filter, which in practice covers about every piece of clear glass.
You chose appropriate ND4, 8, 16 etc to get EV value close to 0 (zero) with shutter set to about half frame rate (30fps, shutter 1/60th for example). 'Generally' on my P4, ND4 for cloudy, ND8 for brighter and ND 16 for really Sunny (in U.K weather terms).
I see we agree Aadvark, about those ND filters and also a bit of some type of lubricant on those threads. I am with you too about the threaded ones as opposed to the slip on. Why add any weight to that gimbal? I know I tried that cone-shaped piece that slips onto the camera, to shadow the sunlight, and it was ok until I can into a little wind and it just caused my gimbal to twitch and do all kinds of crazy stuff to try and keep it straight, which it didn't do. I have never tried it again. Anyway my point is any added weight or anything that will catch more wind is generally not in your best interest in my mind. |
