First, let me clear about that. It's all my stupidity. My mavic pro works great.

I watched lots of youtube about range testing and I quite addicted to it.
Yesterday I flew my bird over the sea to 6000m (19000 ft) away.
No signal lost at all. I ignored the smart RTH warning (my first time ignored that) and
my bird could not make it to the homepoint. So I decided to land it to the rocks beside the sea.
Actually I really don't know how I can do that successfully because when the battery was in 10%,
it landed itself automatcally and I didn't have any idea what to do. So I just flew near the rocks and it landed.

I finally found my bird today. Climbed over the huge rocks, walked to the water, cut my feet
but luckily I found it. The GPS coordinates in the flight log is extremely correct.
And extremely luckily, it doesn't damage at all. Just a pair of props needed to change.

I am so relieve now.

Why did you ignore the smart return to home warning?

Why did you ignore the smart return to home warning?

Simply because I am an idiot. I watched lots of range testing in youtube and
it seems that even if you push the bird a little bit harder it will still enough time to RTH.
But in my case it cannot. I won't do that again of course.

Tip #1 U do know that when it is @10% and starts landing procedure u can fight it with throttle keeping it up and keep trucking back full forward right stick....tip #2 when in rth mode if u hold forward on right stick instead of 22mph u will achieve about 30mph which is still better then being in sport mode and efficient...rth will not be canceled just hold right stick forward and it will continue on its path....these are my tips...from your truly yes i do alot of distance runs....

Now that was an experience you won't forget!  Thankfully you had a connection up till the landing so you had the coordinates.

No, I won't forget it. If there is no coordinates, I don't think I can find the drone.

I did similar thing before and just lucky, with only 10% battery it landed only 100m away in flat ground.  In my experience, we should never fly the Mavic Pro for more than 5km if you count the return trip. For windy days, it's even shorter!  This is a very remote area in Lamma Island, just be careful, make sure someone is with you helping in case!

I think I won't fly more than 4000m for a long period of time....

Close call and slightly irresponsible endeavour. But when it got critical you at least did not panic and took the right decision. I am happy for you that you were able to retrieve it in good condition.

I felt I was with you on that flight. I could feel the panic.

You did a superb job of finding somewhere to land. Your choice of rocks was a lot better the water.

Thanks! This was one of the most exciting moment I have had.
And it was almost a miracle it landed on the rock successfully.

I don't understand why people keep going for range tests.  Everyone has see it before.  Like people learning to wheelie when we have already seen tons of wheelie videos and people doing wheelies til we are nauseated.  Trashed bikes and patched bodywork for no reason.

Besides, I have flown my Spark 10 miles out and and made it back using an aftermarket battery charger and shaped aluminum foil on the antennas (full wave length tuned).  And, I did it over lava.  Water?,...pppft!  You are risking it all for second place trophies

Yes, it's meaningless. Just for fun.
Just like some people like walking, some people like running.
Everybody likes different things.

And that's why I chose some remote area to fly.
If there's accident happens like this time, nobody or other people's properties
will be hurt except my own drone.

The important things are - Have you learned not to be so, lets say.....A little silly. Will you do this type of thing again after seeing the results of this. Lastly, do you really have the cash to buy another MP ??
