I know at the moment we don’t have course lock on Mavic Air , I know it’s a real favorite with some, but doing a small bit of testing today in Tapfly I discovered a work around that might suit those who need course lock.

Put Aircraft in Tapfly, use free fly mode you can pick a spot to fly aircraft tap go and just use yaw and ascent or descent your aircraft will hold the line you first set and you can turn aircraft 360 while aircraft flys perfectly straight towards your target, it works pretty well.

Hope it might help some.

You should be able to get really good cinematic video using this method.

I don’t have any footage just discovered today while doing a bit of testing, next time I go out I will try it incorporate it into some footage.

I think you might be on to something I considered as an omission in the MA capabilities, so I am curious!

Hi Hallmark - is this the equivalent of 'tap fly free' on the P4P - thats a good mode to have on the MA if so. Does using it also switch off the obstacle avoidance too?

Yes no obstacle avoidance, I find using P4Pro that using Draw mode works really well and does a similar job, Draw mode is a really good feature much underused in Draw you retain obstacle avoidance but still have stick control . Maybe we will see it come to Mavics in the future.

I haven't tried yet, and when selecting the free mode you should keep an eye on your flight path for AO, but it should work.

That's progress I guess.
Either way, better not rely on it when in free mode, you can yaw your drone into anything if not mindfull.

Well if using method above you would be flying sideways so OA won’t help you, but I have to say this method works really well being trying it out this morning well impressed, there’s always more than one way to skin a cat.

You can get two really nice different lines of sight and flying is very steady.

Just a quick clip shows the idea really easy to work , ignore the quality it’s straight off the app.

For sure - Draw is a great mode to use on the P4P. Glad to see tap fly free is on the MA - that is also a great feature to have.

I still find it amazing. I remember the first time I saw a shot like this. It was about 15 years ago alongside a Formula 1 track.
It was then super expensive and needed cranes and tow cables for it to work.

Now a 800 dollar drone can do this trick.

Now it won't be easy, but I think it is possible.
What kind of stick movement are you making?

Just a simple yaw left or right once you yaw to a position it will hold that position and aircraft will stop just before your setting for tapfly .

Yes, that looks great.
I am curious with the free mode if you can use your sticks or have to use the screen.

And can you use the sticks for the yaw motion while flying?
Or do you have to use the screen?

Yes you only use sticks, first you can see in the video I set a point to tapfly to the aircraft holds this heading controller only needs to operate yaw movements, he can also Move gimbal up and down.

Very nice. That will be much more smooth.
To my best knowledge this is not in Mavic Pro or Spark right?

Not that Mavic Pro needs it with Course / Home lock, but Spark could use the free mode I think!

COURSE LOCK in the mavic air

Thanks for answering, but I think  that  tap fly is a bad way to control the correct direction to film an object.

Dji will not install the COURSE LOCK in the mavic air . All cheap  toy drones as Hubsan H502S have the headless mode (Course lock).
In Tap fly you always must pay attention not not to fly against an object. I hope in the future it will be in your app 4.
sorry for my bad English. Tere are so many years that I learned  it at school. Hi your hotte.surf

I don’t know if dji will install course lock, but my method of substitution is a workaround so it may require better piloting skills but will give same results, we will just have to wait and see.
