Took this video with my P3A last fall before the river froze over. Close up of the water flowing over the gates during some high water. Interesting thing with this dam is when the water reaches very high flood stage in the spring, the water has been known to actually flow right over the dam. There is normally only a small drop drop from one side to the other. This locks only supports the length of the towboat and 3-barges. Most of the river traffic is usually a combination of the towboat and up to 15 barges. (3-wide and 5 long), so going thru these locks requires the separation of them, which will take 2-3 lock throughs, then re-assemble the lot of them on the other side and continue the journey.
The local news station in Paducah, KY is now using a DJI quad in it's news operations, calling it "SKY6".
They shot some footage over Kentucky dam back at the end of February as they were releasing 244,00 cubic feet / 1.8 million gallons per second after a LOT of rain! It's pretty impressive watching the power of all that water.

I put the phone system in at KY Dam, it's an interesting place and a great bunch of folks to work with.

Hey Gil, I watched that video and that is cool. A lot of water!
Thanks everyone, I enjoy the river, dams, and river boats. Can't wait for summer to get here and the paddle-wheelers to start cruising again. Those are awesome to see up close.
Got something upstream from you last Friday. They demolished a bridge in Savanna, IL. You can see the delay in the sound wave coming at the camera and the brief camera shake when the sound wave hits.
