Epic DJI Phantom 4 Drone crash. I gave my old P4P to a friend and he royally crashed it after just a few flights. I guess he was flying in sport mode, which probablt also disabled the sensors, therefore the bird did not see the upcoming building, crashing straight into the Church. Fortunately the Church did not suffer any damage. A word of wisdom: do not fly your drone in sport mode, unless you know what you are doing. It also appears that the video was all glitchy, do who knows what happened before this crash. The SD Card did not keep the video, for some reason, but he was able to download it to his phone and here it is. A truly epic drone crash, quite sad to watch.

Great editing- from hiding the friend to the sound effects. Next time, don't GIVE it away. Sell it. Maybe the new owner will be more careful then. ;)
I always try to involve more people by gifting the older drones. I have to say, he was really into it, but took it too far.
Of course, I actually laughed hysterically when I saw the 'Remains'. I never saw a drone in this state before, only in videos. He is a genius scientist, but obviously not so good at flying. This would be the 2nd scientist that crashed a drone (On my list). The most careful I know is an Engineer that is high up in the Automotive business. He never crashed anything. I wonder if there's a pattern

I dont know.... It s like selling your car to a friend. You friend beats the crap out of it. His wife goes and gets drunk and drives it in to a tree. Yeah that happened to me. a 3 year restoration on a 1965 Buick LeSabre.
I think if he would have paid some money for it he would have been more careful as well.
What a waste.
That's someone that should not be flying drones.
btw any time you switch to sport mode, the obstacle avoidance sensors automatically go off.
In sport mode, there is no obstacle avoidance.

The video was recorded but because of the crash, the camera was not able to close the file..
If you put the SD card in a Phantom and power cycle it, you'll probably get the video (minus the last two seconds).

Yea me! I had this thought when I read his post. So my feeble old mind isn’t so bad after all. Thank you Labroides for confirming what I thought. I hope he tries this and we find out if it works.
It also looks like your friend was flying where he shouldn't have been... according to Italian rules... but of course nobody cares about it. Sad reality.

Why in the world was he even in sports mode? He should have used POI mode and gotten some great footage of the church.
Your "friend" should be more appreciative of your generosity next time.
