Hi Everybody,

Recently returned from a long shooting job in Central CA with the Inspire 2 with all latest firmware and Cendence. I put a considerable number of hours on both the aircraft and batteries, often in colder temperatures, near the sea, with atmospheric moisture present. Was shooting a car job, so chasing automobiles in sport mode a lot of the time, pushing the bird nice and hard. All things considered, I was super impressed with how the bird held up. However, I did notice some salt build-up on the props from being in heavy mist near the sea. Definitely had to wipe some moisture droplets off the lens as well. Bird flew perfectly on my last flight where I drained the batteries.

After returning hope and visually inspecting the bird, I found two physical issues that concern me:

1. Moisture or lubricant (?) secretions from the seam/crack on both sides of the component with the "Mind Your Fingers" sticker on it. Photograph below. By itself probably not a big issue but worth nothing.

2. Two pieces of plastic molding adjacent to the battery terminals have become slightly looser than originally manufactured, creating some gaps in the flat plastic area that faces the struts. I can tell they are looser than they should be because if I push them back in from both sides, they become much more flush. This has occurred somewhat symmetrically on both sides. Very difficult to photograph this, so please bear with me.

Can anyone think of whether or not this is a cause for concern? Bird is about 1.5 years old, and has seen a fair bit of action: 122 flights, 22 hours of operation on the aircraft, flown about 1,017,026 feet, or about 192 miles.

If somebody tells that the wind blew it apart over time and that the bird is fine, I'll take that. But I worry about moisture expanding some of the components or wreaking havoc inside the bird. Last I checked, flies perfectly. My backup is Inspire 1 RAW and I am very loathe to let the Inspire 2 out of my hands for any amount of time, as I use it to make money.

Any thoughts?

I've experienced that liquid on the center frame's servo motor coming out on the inspire 1. It's the oil coming out with the condensation in cold cycles. After a few months from that fluid leak, it stopped retracting landing gear. Probably due to corossion.

Wd40 water specialist (non conductive) would totally help protect the servo motor gears but I'm not a technician so I can't get in it lol

I definitely notice the landing motor seeming to struggle and make more noise, both on the ground and in the air

Now that you’ve used it in the cold It is easier for corrosion to form when not using it for long periods. Due to water molecules inside that can turn to corrosion on the gear.. the only solution is to use it at least once a week. If not corrosion can step in easy. The active moving of the gears won’t let corrosion process form. It’s like a German car, if you don’t use it for long periods then it’s gonna start corroding on various parts. This can happen in hot humid climates too

The fluid is something I noticed with my I1 but had no problems with landing gear. The I2 made squeaking noise when entering / exiting landing mode this winter when flying at 20 degrees.

I've had my I2 for just a year now and recently the collar that holds the Aux arm to the right arm is slipping off. I caught it right away before fatal accident. Attempts to re-seat it and reset the clamp screw with red Locktite were not successful. I'm after warranty and will fix it myself even if I have to pay $145 for a whole new right arm just to get parts.

1. For the liquid, please wipe it off, no worries, it will not affect the landing gear.
2. For the line pressing plate, no need to worry about it as well unless it is loose.
Here is the Inspire 2 maintenance user manual: https://dl.djicdn.com/downloads/ ... ntenance_Manual.pdf We recommend to make a comprehensive maintenance after every 200 flights or 50 flight hours.

Use mini silica gel packs on the center frame box

The other guy is correct, water molecule collection inside the box can cause corossion and stop the gears from moving.

Got it, thanks Mindy.

For future reference, what is involved in a comprehensive maintenance process? Do I send it in to DJI for this? How long does this process usually take?

My concern is having the aircraft available for jobs as they come. Please advise - thanks!

Had the same issue. The bolt that clamps the collar to the arm is to long and bottoms out before it can crush the collar enough to grip. Install a small washer or washers under the bolt head and it will clamp and crush the collar properly.

Thanks for the advice. Each time I reset it I fear of stripping the threads. It looks like the hole was bored and threaded but a bar of metal limits the screw. iPhones can do really good macro shots.

Customers can have a maintenance by him/herself per our maintenance manual, if there is something wrong with the drone, then the drone is recommended to be sent in for further evaluation, for the time frame, it will take approximately 5-7 business days excluding shipping and delivery time.

Hi there's no maintenance for the landing gear servo motor.

Rusting could happen usually when warranty is over.
Once it rusts on the inside gears, it will stop working definitely. If you fly in the cold, use silica gel. Tape it on the inspire or where you store it.
