It at least makes me hesitate on buying.
I really not liked the gimbal clamp and how you had to remove it.
Felt like breaking the thing.

I leave the clamp on the Gimbal with the surrounding dome and plastic protector on at all times. I only take them off right before flying. I kind of feel safe keeping the bands in place with the protectors.

I was but don't worry it will drop back down in price and it sounds like you want a Mavic Air? By the time you're ready the firmware updates and other glitches will be all worked out.

That is exactly what I did. But taking the clamp off was the main issue for me.
I had a hard time with that.

I have a pricewatch on both. It really does not matter to me.
Both have a lot in common.
And I can live with the shortcomings of both because of the other pro's they have.

I find it that I need to turn the Mavic Pro on its back and pull the clamp up until it dislodges.

The more I use my Mavic Pro the more I find Ocusync to be important. I like the fact of going out in range and not needing to be worried about disconnecting or losing transmission signal.

That and the double compass (which the Air does not have)

Yes, I did it like that.

You need to have two hands on the clamp and the actual Gimbal aligning the two until you see the fit and then snap it back into place.

Good point, the double internal compass make the failsafe an enhanced feature of the Mavic Pro.

Yes, I got it to work, but still felt like I was about to break something.
Now I know there are aftermarket clamp + protectors in 1 piece. They seem to work much better.
So when I decide to go for MP, I will for sure buy that one.

I had some compass warnings, but due to the redundancy, no unexpected behavior

A lot of fliers who own the MP gripe about the clamp, I on the other hand find it was a little tricky for me in the beginning but I've grown pretty accustomed to pulling it out and putting it back in.

That will happen I guess.
Also it might get less tight over time.

In the air.
That was the odd thing.
But I brought the MP down, hovered for a bit, no new errors etc.

I keep an eye on the Mavic Pro and its camera gimbal system, except that when I hit start on the MP I forget to watch the gimbal motor initiate. Instead I just read the start-up screen in the app and scroll down to Gimbal making sure it reads normal.

That's scary, I've never seen a compass error with the Mavic Pro or Spark but if I did then obviously landing immediately would be highly advised and the action I would take.

It hasn't really got a double compass. Two would be affected identically by mag interference.
It has a more elaborate compass.

Today I purchased the new Tello drone. I haven't unboxed it yet, as I will be reading, and watching, up on best ways to fly this little guy indoors. Should be a blast!

It occurred a couple of times, but so only once and did not return.
I guess the dual compass saved me from odd behavior

My main concern is the overall exposed location of the gimbal and the way you have to remove the clamp. It felt like I was going to break the thing off.

I think if you can take great comfort that DJI stands by their products and ensures repair or replacement as has been going on to all Mavic Pro owners, then if my unit were to defect then I'm confident DJI would get me back up and flying quickly.

I'm not so sure what happens if I break my gimbal because I put too much force on it while taking the clamp off.

That may be a good enough reason then not to purchase a second one. It sounds like if the gimbal was a problem then the Air might be better for you?

BTW, what announcement do you think DJI will make on March 28th?

That will be one thing I have to be careful with.
Then again, with a better designed clamp + protector in 1 piece I might be good to go.
Today they temporary fixed the roof so that it is watertight again.
Now just wait for the quotation on the rebuild of the roof....
