The range is cut by about half because of 1.7.8 radio firmware.
Compared to 1.6 which is now disabled to be downgraded to, I recently tried but 1.6 gives shattered feed now.
1.6 worked normal just a few weeks ago.

I have read also that 1.5.8 used the radio and 1.6 ac receiver to its full potential.
Why not have full use of the radio as before?
