Has anyone else had a problem with the OTG cable between the RC and the Android tablet/phone.  I think when I use it it corrupts the drone software and I seem to rememeber reading that the latest software update has deliberatley been designed to stop the use of an OTG cable.  Any thoughts? The WiFi connection is not brilliant.

Search OTG even in this forum and you will have ALL information. Its too much to write in a few sentences and it depends on your OS

Yeah since the more recent versions of the app, other still works, but none of the flight telemetry ( height, distance, speed) work and the battery indicator also does not work

You will also find that some of the quickshot modes do not work either

WiFi is very reliable if you fly in a location away from buildup area. If your phone/tablet support check the WIFI spectrum on DJI Go app and use a less congested frequency (usually 5.8GHz).

RAM-UK. The WiFi works fine on my phone with little interference but at my age (!) the phone is too small and I need to use the tablet. When I use it (Samsung Galaxy 10.1) it just distorts, fails to keep up with the craft and most of the time the essential information is not there.  It needs a hard wired connection which I gather used to be there.

Thanks now cracked though have not test flown.  My last question (!)  is can I  use 4.1.15 on the tablet and 4.2.6 on the phone or must I use the same on both devices?

Jos -thanks. I have tied the 4.1.15 but it does not  seem to work properly - RTH setting fails, no Battery readings and so on. Going to try 4.2.6 again with the WiFi which works on the Samsung 7 but not my Samsung Tablet which I was hoping to use with OTG. Frustrating phafffing about with software and not flying!

Maybe I will try again but at the moment thinking the tablet is too old perhaps.  Even on Wifi it breaks up.

I wasn't sure about this part, but I found out that my drone wasn't sending Wifi, and my controller was!

Up to now always flown with wifi (galaxy S6) but although I never fly far (mostly <100m) I often see the video downlink drops. Very annoying. Today did my first flight with otg cable and it's a day and night difference.
Flew 110m, nod drops, perfect signal. Checked logs afterwards in app.airdata.com and the signal is definitely more stable. So for me this will be the way to go in the future even when I need to use an older app version.

While your drone is on (fan running) press and hold down the power button until you hear a beep. That turns on the drones Wifi.  You can then link the remote control to it.  I fly to about 100 to 300mtrs perfect video on my phone no drop outs and signal loss. Never used a OTG cable

The usage of OTG cable depends on where you are, in the US (and other FCC countries) the WiFi is sufficient for most people due to an adequate allowed power but in the Europe where 5,8GHz band has about 20x less allowed power and practically no android phone can use it anyway, the OTG cable is a must. Without it my max range is about 50m, I could probably go a little bit further but with some serious disconnects. With an OTG cable I get 400+m range.
