it worked. finally put a bigger screen. currently running the big ipad pro, 12.9" in lieu of the crystal sky, as an alternative to the android and its dji beta pilot. a video link below

quick observations

Pros:
++bigger screen
++iOS
++GS Pro
++can install reliable third party UAV apps

Cons.
--heavy
--cannot zoom in GS Pro (please correct me
--needed extra parts (dji mobile holder + 3D printed part from amazon)
--hdmi out of cendence and into crystal sky as a second monitor did not work (HDMI was enabled)
--i think the crystal sky has a gps in it (?) but the iPad does not so without a data plan, live map might be an issue (unconfirmed)

CS will not accept external HDMI In (shame!), at least for now ... How about iPad brightness? It's only 600 cd/m2, is it good enough without shade? You may consider iPad on tripod or mic stand and longer USB to Lightning cable from RC. Holding this monster on RC seems crazy, you'll want to land the bird as soon as possible, trust me. BTW, if you download maps at home, you'll have them on site ...

All ipads have built in GPS.  If you do not have an ipad with the cell option you just need to download the maps while on a network and cache them locally.
