Ive noted a few threads lately about attaching gps trackers to drones.
I found this one for sale only $20 sounds cheap  hmmmm well theres a catch. This tracker has a powerfull magnet built in.
If you attach this particular tracker to your drone you could be asking for trouble the magnet will interfere with the compass settings of your drone.
Im not sure if the magnet can be removed or not but thought i would bring this up for everyones attention.
Other trackers may also have a magnet built in so might be advisable before buying a tracker for your drone to do a little research before you part with your cash.

Should be able to remove easily as its just a hanging point is all, crack it open and remove that bad boy My main concern would be that they are only 2g

It weighs 13,8 ounces or 390g. And it's 20cm high.
So it's out of question to use it for phantom style drones.

It's 19,3cm. But that's the package, not the item. Doesn't matter. That thing is so wrong for a drone as anything could be.

I agree hence the warning putting a powerful magnet close to your drone is asking for trouble.
Even if the magnet could be removed i doubt it would be very good i guess you get what you pay for.

Well, I have one on order.
The difference is you have to read before you buy.
I purchased one that has two batteries, a charger, two different covers (one magnetic & one plain plastic), and the weight is only 50 g (1.76 oz...not 13.8 oz) and that is w/battery installed.
Yes it will need a sim card to operate, but you only use data which s/b very little unless you leave it on all the time! It has Network: GSM/GPRS, GPS Chip: SIRF3 Chip, GPS Sensitivity: -159dBm, and
GPS accuracy: 5 meters (I can find my P3S if I can get within 16ft)
I am getting it all for $25 including shipping.
I am still checking cell providers (Verizon will add it to my service for $5 mo) that is cheap piece of mind for me...plus I can use it for other tracking if/when I want to.

Check what band it works on, many of those low cost trackers use 2G band, and the 2G band is being phased out in the US.

Well Hellsgate and Geebax were right!
Not happy with the TK 102 tracker (2G) I was able to get a sim card with 2G, but service is very poor, and only near major highways and large city...non of which helps me.
Only good thing is the carrier allows month to month  service with no contract. I am out $5 plus $17 for the tracker.
Looking at the 3G Trackimo.

I have a GPS / GSM tracker ... uses 2G and PAYG ..... but of course in Latvia all Mobile providers still can cater for 2G.

Does it work ? Yes.

Does it have a purpose designed P3 mount ? Yes.

Cost ? Cheap !!

Now they are about 2x the price I paid ! ...

Do I use it always ? No !! I did and then swapped the mount for my Soloshot 3 TAG !
