Hi all...

This may sound like another stupid newb question - but here it goes anyway.

The grey foam block that is wedged into the back of the gimble when I take my P4 out of the box for the first time... should I replace it whenever I pack up the AC after flying?  Or is it just there for shipping?  I'm guessing that the lens cover that clips onto the landing gear might be enough but don't want to take a chance.  I've been known to be wrong once in a while.  Just ask my wife.

Much appreciated!!!

It is not needed if you have the lens cover/gimbal clamp on.

Ha. Ha - nice one: Just ask my wife :-)

That foam block might not be needed but I always put it back in when my drone goes into its case.
DJI has chosen to ship drones that way so I guess it can't hurt.

If your gimbal clamp is in place securely then the camera cannot move in any direction the foam can safely be left off.

When my Phantom 3 Pro arrived from China, the clear plastic gimbal gaurd was laying at the bottom of the box.

But that white foam bit, was securely still in place at the back of the gimbal.  Go figure.

I keep using both the plastic and the foam protector, better safe than sorry and it is not the big issues to un-/re-mount the thing.

If you ever forget it, the app will give you a gimbal motor overload warning.

I just thought clamp, sounded pretty forceful.
Mine is a lens cap and gimbal guard combination, that was gifted to me from a local forum member.

Well i thought clamp was an appropriate expression as it does hold the gimbal firmly in place, thus clamping it in position.

I always consider a clamp, as a device that can be closed to hold something.

Vice grips are clamps. ;-)

Thank you all for the advice/answers.  As some of you have said, it can't hurt putting it back on after use.  It takes 2 seconds to put it on so I guess it's better to be double safe than sorry.

Sorry Red Hot Poker... I just saw this now.  Yes, I do have the clear gimbal clamp and will be using it diligently.

I always keep it on while in storage.  Need may be strong, but I keep it there and remove it for every flight.  Just me.... but I won't throw it away.

I use both for transport and storage, good enough for DJI then it should be enough for us...I figure

FYI - I have accidently left it on in the beginning when I was first learning and I received no warning or flags about the gimbal.  One would think you would but I did not, not sure why.  Still it is not advisable to leave it on under any reason during flight.

As long as it's put on correctly, they fit good and snug. But if it only stuck on haphazardly can slip off quite easily.
There are better ones people have designed and 3D printed.

Found one on eBay for $10.36, tax and delivery included.  At that price, why bother making it myself.  This is the first time I've ever used eBay.  I was always an Amazon guy.

Which design is that one? Is it a lens cap with gimbal guard?

Perhaps if you carry your drone in a padded protective case, a front element protector may be overkill.

I think it's wise to cover that glass when not being used.

No... no gimbal guard.  It just slides over each end of the phone.  I'll still be using the lens cover/gimbal guard that comes with the drone.
