My Mavic Air is still in transit, but just looking at my phone I am a little concerned that it is just to small, so I was looking at a 7" or 8" tablet might be just the ticket.
I was looking at a Amazon Fire. Dose anybody run one of these, if not what do fly with ?

Don't believe that will work. I use a mini iPad 2 wifi version. Android or iOS or dji's monitor.

IPhone 8+ here, along with an iPad Air if I feel like I need a bigger screen.

You may find your phone is fine if you use a sunshade to make the screen easier to see when it’s sunny. Hummingbird posted up a really nice DIY design for one in the thread below, but various sizes can be bought for fairly cheap.

iPad mini 4 is way better than phones which are too small. It fits nicely in my landing mat bag.

The Amazon fire HD 10 does not have DJI Go 4  on the amazon store but  you can side load DJI Go 4 ver 4.2.8  using apkpure.com and it works well on the Amazon tablet.

I have been testing the combination of 4.2.8 and the Fire HD 10, at this stage I can't find any problems
There is no latency and or pixelation, I think the only issue issue is the screen brightness at 405 nits, compared to the Ipad Mini 450nits and the Ipad 6th gen 489 nits

The Fire HD 10 is faster than the HD 8, but it's a bit heavier and it has a brighter screen 405 nits vs 380 nits and higher screen resolution (1900 x 1200)

For the price the Fire's are great tablets

I use a Mini 4 Wifi only and a Crystal Sky 5.5 inch (Which now supports Litchi) depends on what your budget is. If you are just looking a device to fly with, Crystal Sky provides outstanding brightness on sunny days, I would kinda stay away from the 7.85 inch Ultra Bright ( they seem to be having some issues with the screen going black). the 7.85 inch High Brightness seems to be solid, my 5.5 inch works fine. Like I say it's all about the budget and intended use.

I use a Google Nexus 7, and all is well. It will fit in the controller with no issues. Fits nicely, with MA in my pelican case.

iPad Mini 2 with WIFI and cellular (for GPS).  Fits horizontally in Mavic Pro RC (use 8" USB connector with right angle lightning connector into iPad), more real estate screen-wise than iPhone 8 Plus which is my backup/travel lighter setup.

My reply above would not show quote sign.  Should read 8 inch USB to right angle lightning connector into iPad.

I bought an iPad Mini 4 especially for this job as I thought my iPhone X might be a bit too small to read the numbers, especially with daylight on the screen.

The iPad fits the bracket I bought nicely and isn't too heavy.

I didn't like the fact I'd have to take the case of my iPhone to make it fit on the controller, plus the phone always seemed to move and was never straight.

I am still a new pilot and learning, but I think I have made the best choices I could.

This is great information I figured the Amazon Fire HD10 would not work but after reading this it does.  Yeah for the price this may be a good option for me.  Thank you very much for this great info.

The Fire HD 8 32gb  is the perfect size, but I'm not sure about the cpu, as DJI Go 4 gets more cpu intensive with each version released

I have the a IPad Mini 4 128Gb with Wifi only. It is only dedicated to my MP.
Fits perfect in the MP controller and the large screen is always sharp and much easier to see then a phone screen.

Great thread.

I'm also considering a larger screen/tablet because I miss a lot on the Samsung Galaxy phone I use now.

There are many surprises once I watch my MA videos on the big computer monitor or my HD TV, I see things that I did not see while flying.  I also yell at myself that I should have" done this or that" because flying looks so easy on the bigger screen.

I'm assuming all tablets need the adapter?  Right?

I don't want to spend a lot and this thread  opened my eyes to a few affordable options -- so, thanks everyone!

Would just need the cable that comes with the tablet that would then connect to the bottom port of the RC.

Thanks.  Good info.  I didn't even think of that.  So, THAT'S what the USB port is for!

I should have been more clear -- I was referring to the adapter that holds the tablet.  Is that required?  Looks like it is.

On ali express, I see a bunch of tablets in the $85 dollar range, with 4GB ram, a 10" screen, running Android 7.0 -- the brand names are not familiar to me but they are all highly rated by purchasers.

Has anyone ever tried an off-brand, chinese tablet for flying?

Any good?

iPad mini 4 with WiFi only. I use the hotspot on my phone for internet.  I have the mounting bracket because I prefer the feel and ease of use of having the screen over the controller.  I also have a hood so I can see the screen in bright sunlight.   I know some prefer using the built in brackets to hold the iPad mini but I just find that awkward and hard to balance and see the screen.  To each his own.

I purchased from Walmart today the Samsung Tab A 6 that is a 7 inch tablet running Android 5.1 Lolipop. It was on Rollback for a good deal, but unfortunately it can't run DJI GO 4 well not to mention it can't even run the Tello application (just crashes every time I boot up). Needless to say, I will be returning the device. I'm going back to my Samsung S7 since there really aren't very many small Android tablets that can run well flying the Mavic Pro or other DJI drones.

It fits? I have only used my i7 because it didn't look like my mini would fit, maybe I just let the length of the  plug in cord dissuade me since it isn't centered or long enough for a mini (or is it?)

There is a photo of an iPad Mini in the remote controller above. Yes, you'll definitely need a longer cable.

Yea I had to buy a 6 inch cord and it works for me. I use the USB port on the bottom center of the controller and the connect it to the iPad. I need a cord where it has a right angle joint from when it connects to the iPad to the cord like the one pictured above. I'm afraid with the cable I have now I might accidentally snap it.
