Hi.

As the thread reads. Getting a drone to do surveillance of people (work related) like following them in a residential area to locate their houses and similar.

Which Drone would be better. Air as its smaller and more portable or Pro Platinum due to it being more quiet and so.

But I also heard some people complain the bitrate on the MPP is only 60 while its 100 for the Mavic Air.

would appreciate advise

Thank you

Air sounds like a swarm of angry wasps compared to MPP or MP with MPP props.

Are you sure that what you are planning is legal in your country? It certainly isn't in most countries.

Not sure if I want to advice on this. But I would get the Platinum.
Longer flight time, range and less sound.
Exactly what you want for 'the job'.
But make sure you know where you can / can't fly!

I think it is illegal in my area, even for law enforcement. Besides, they make to much noise to be stelth.

Well I live in South East Asia. Drone laws in this jurisdiction, will probably come in 10 yrs or so.
Plus it will mostly take place in highly populated areas. Where you have cars, buses, Jeepneys, Tricycles, roosters, barking dogs, screaming people and what not. So someone noticing a drone and suspecting that he is being followed, is highly unlikely.

Try following people on foot when being Caucasian or Black in areas like this.
It will take about 4 seconds before the entire area knows you are there and that you dont belong there. Hence Drone.

If you have legal documents you should know where there dwelling is....

Have you ever tried wearing an invisibility coat? Might be a better option overall

Huh?

So if you are serving an individual legal documents, but he keeps his residential address secret. How would you know where his dwelling is?

What are you even talking about. So if I am being charged with something, and the complainant only has my name. They will automatically know my address?

Did you try to wear a brain ? It would serve you in the attempts of understanding things.

Marauders Map probably worth keeping on hand too!

OP, if noise isn’t a concern, I think the Air would be less noticeable. Doing something similar for my work, with trying to catch people doing illegal things from an environmental perspective, but the drones are also going to be used to get water samples and stuff like that, so we got P4Ps.

Wonder how many of ours are going to be shot out of the sky by angry farmers! We actually have a risk register, of farmers who answer the door wielding a shotgun when our inspectors turn up. There are many where we have to take a police escort with us.

Thanks for the advise.

Did order the Mavic Air Onyx Fly More today. Hopefully getting it on Monday already.

I love your job btw, must be fun dodging redneck farmers with shotguns.

Here in Manila people have guns as well, but most are just a bunch of idiots who cant hit a barn if they even stood 10 feet from it.

Would be a waste of time. By the time you did preflight checks to fly the drone subject will be long gone. Maybe you could ask them to wear a high visibility cap to track them easier.

Drones are being utilised by local councils to target fly tipping. Mavic Pro/Plat with sneaky props at 100ft ideal

I think what's going on here is that the OP is buying a drone to do exactly what most of the non drone owning population fears - drones are spying on them.  And as a result, re-enforcing their fears and just making it more difficult in general for anyone to fly drones anywhere.

Law enforcement in the smallest towns are using drones for the exact reason the OP states. Here locally, the cops/code enforcement fly properties looking for everything from meth labs to sheds built unpermitted. Privacy was lost long ago, might as well have some fun with the drone along the way.

Given that in the UK there are close on 6 million CCTV cameras, online we have Farcebook and many others making a mockery of privacy and personal data. Having a drone point a camera is no different to a dash-cam in a car for example. Except the drone cameras are governed in most countries under the guise of privacy.

Hi, yes, the Mavic air is smaller and portable, however, I like both of the Mavic air and Mavic pro, you can choose to purchase one of them or both, thanks!

The Mavic Pro Platinum is DJI's quietest drone. In my case, it's handy to reduce the chance of annoying people within my flight routes.

And as an added bonus you would likely have better transmission and range using the Mavic Pro (& Pro Platinum) which uses 'Ocusync' transmission protocol. This also allows the use of two sets of Goggles & two controllers simultaneously, perhaps making it the better choice for your requirements.

Edit:- I just read post 18, but perhaps for future info' :-)

A true surveillance company would have access to ALL of the targets information, as most know in any 1st world country big brother has tracked and gathered every bit of digital personal information, every keystroke, photo/video, telephone conversation, GPS location of your phone, text message, twitter response and facebook log in since the ThinThread project in 1994 at a cost of about 3.8 million dollars, which was ended in 2002 in lue of a new project (Trailblazer) at a cost of 4 billion dollars ( used to fund pork barrel projects in the US Govt.). Here in the US it is stored in 2 facilities, a 1.0 million sq. ft. facility and a new 2.2 million sq. ft. facility.

Unfortunately we are not a "true" surveillance company. We are a Law Firm.

Was actually considering buying both. I just received the Mavic Air today. WIll test it out during the week. And then probably buy the Mavic PP as well. Just to cover all bases.
