I went out to practice my flying skills the other day and put this together.

I had an odd thing happen with my Mavic Air.  Everytime a train would come by my connection to my Galaxy S9 Plus would drop in and out.  When there were no trains passing by it was fine.  It didn't matter if I was in 5.8GHz or 2.4GHz, it did it with both.   Does anybody know if the railroad in the USA uses WiFi on the trains or some other stong radio signal in those bandwidths?

Anyway, I had some fun.  Hope you enjoy this short clip.

Great video.
Sorry to hear about the bad connection on your phone.
Did you loose phone connection itself or lost connection between phone and controller?

I do not think the train frequency's interfered with the drone or the phone.
The railroads of North America are assigned a group of 97 frequencies in the VHF band. These frequencies are in the range of 160.110 megahertz to 161.565 megahertz, in 15 kilohertz increments. Outside the VHF band, the railroads of North America use the frequency 457.9375 megahertz for transmissions from a train's end-of-train (EOT) device to the train's lead locomotive.
Phone frequency  are from 1850-1990 megahertz

Very dangerous what you did! Second you need to stay away from metal. You had metal all around you!

Hi, there. I would recommend you fly in a recommended environment. Voltage line can have a bad influence on image transmission. Please change a place without interference and see if the performance goes well.

The symptom was, the picture on the phone would freeze. The drone still responded. And it seemed to happen only when the train went by and it was very intermittent. If there were no trains the picture was fine. And it only affected the phone, the video on the SD card in drone was fine.

Why would you consider this dangerous?  The only issue that I had was the occasional freezing of the image on the phone, and that only occasionally happened when the train passed. The drone flew just fine.

The mavick air did fine. The environment was OK. The only odd issue was when the train would come by. The drone did a great job I am very happy with its performance.

Oh, and thanks for the info on the frequencies that the railroad uses. You seem quite informed.

Did a little more research.
Todays trains are mostly diesel and drive large electric generators that can produce  an EMI, Electromagnetic Fields and Electromagnetic Interference.  It is possible that your devices are more sensitive then others and act like you see it on occasion.
My advise is don't fly near trains. And take the advise from DJI Elektra.
Let us know if the problem goes away.
Fly safe.

Did you read DJI Electra response???

Train is metal. Tracks are metals. Probably you took off next to your car.

Second you are flying over a run away train between track signal supports which are also metals

It is great that your drone act well in the flight. But I still recommend you fly in recommended environment. Please do not risk your drone and happy flying.

My best guess is just the amount of metal that was the problem.
Did you also have it when flying higher in the air?

No  the interference came only when the engines came by and only with some of the engines not all, otherwise everything was fine metal and all

Ok, so there was something different with these engines.
I'm no tech guy so that is difficult for me to explain.
Maybe some radio the operators have that caused the interference.
Or maybe the wagons were equipped with an RFID tag.
Although I doubt they have so much power.
