Have my spark for almost a year now, but just bought the Remote (before I used just phone).

What should I expect for a typical range in urban áreas?? 500m? 1km?

Pretty hard to get 500 m in an urban area to much interference.

2 KM at ease

Spark's range is software limited, not hardware. 2km , the FCC limit, is the max you are going to get

Line of Sight.
Could you still see your spark at 1Km?
Could you still see what direction it was heading?
Could you control it accurately?

If the answer is No to any of these, then you can't fly to 1Km

Don't think there's any software limit while flying in FCC mode, here in the states I got 3.52 km (11571ft) distance from home on a flight, still had a/c control but the battery forced an RTH.  If the battery had double the juice I'm fairly certain I could have flown at least 15000 ft from home point.

I flew my Spark 10,000 feet but not over urban area.

The bit your missing is where are you from?

This is gonna make a huge difference

It isn't a jet fighter.
It's a UAV
CAA and FCC require line of sight flying.
Pretty sure no exceptions to that

Why don't YOU guys try to tell that RF energy that it can't go that far....  My controller to spark still has a strong connection at almost 2 miles.  In town.
I am one of those guys that likes to get that little extra, push the envelope and stuff like that. Sure, when it's out that far I'm definitely not gonna be seeing it with my 60 year old eyes.  I guess people will call me a troublemaker for that.  The one limit that I try to stick to pretty close is the 400ft AGL ceiling.  but when you take off in a river valley there are no rules broken there when you fly to the hilltops and go 400 above the ground there.

And in the U.S., if flying recreationally under section 336, there is no height restriction!  

Consistently getting 800m on urban area. Stock controller + Spark.

Will try rural area this weekend.
