Hello all:

I have been flying my Phantom 3 for a year now with no probs. I upgraded to a Mavic Air and immediatelh had problems with a loss connection. My question is when should I go to 5.8  and what is the best way to select a 5.8?

You use 5.8 in areas with high density of interferences, e.g. cities or when many people are around as mobile phones etc. interfer with 2.4. In 5.8 you have lower range but a more stable signal.
When you are outside in an area with a low amount of objects that can interfer signals you can use 2.4 to have more range.

Since you are in the US with FCC standard the range of 2.4 and 5.8 Ghz are identical. Thus using 5.8 should make your connection more stable. However, interference from other networks is only one of the possible reasons. Make sure to always direct your antennas to the MA with no obstacles in between.

I Concur with Captain Wachtberger, Ever since I switched to 5.8 Ghz almost all of my dropped signals have gone away.
The distance is the same for me.

Spot on! Only in CE areas do we see 5.8 cut by 75% on the MA. There again, we're not allowed to fly over cities here...

Hey there, it is recommended to fly under 5.8GHz in the urban area to reduce the interference.

Wow - I thought tho opposite. In the youtube videos, the 5.8 is recommended with lots of homes, wi-fi and interference. I've lost one drone due to losing connection. What is the best way to monitor strength of signal while flying? Thanks

Currently, most interference still comes with 2.4GHz. You can click the HD icon to monitor whether the current channel is stable or not.
