Hi All,

I have been flying my mavic now for about 3 weeks and was just wanting to guage peoples recomendations in regards to wind.

Every now and agian i get a YELLOW warning saying "High wind Fly with caution and in line of sight" , do i need to stop when this happens or is it ok? How much more can it handle?

Also i have had a warning a in RED say "Caution High Wind Land ASAP" is this also bad? i kept flying as the wind wasnt that bad...

Love to know, im just really cautious about the wind. Please tell me if im being over protective.

Thanks all.

With the yellow warning you probably can keep flying but remember that the wind is proportional to the height. The Mavic can handle wind but if you feel like drifting try to go lower and enable sport mode to get back home.

Your Mavic knows perfectly well speed and direction of the wind (why DJI refuse to show it in DJI GO4 I have No idea ). So those warnings are for 6 m/s ~22 km/h and 9 m/s ~32 km/h respectively (if I am not mistaken )
So it's up to You to decide what to do! I personally feel Very uncomfortable flying in high wind but sometimes have No choice - You can see wind map in Airdata (if You subscribe) might be not very precise but will give You idea in what conditions You was flying - I have some gusts in logs up to 60 km/h but might be a mistake - Mavic handle wind up to 40 something Very well but I'll avoid flying in such conditions.
Hope it helps and safe flying!

Agreed yellow is a warning, Red is bad if it says land, land. Better safe than sorry.

In regards of high wind warning. I got the yellow warning all the time, nothing to be worried about. However, just to be extra careful, I make sure I fly against the wind  first so that on the way back it will be with the wind.

Just to emphasise the issue with height. I flew in March in wind. I thought it was manageable, but when I climbed to 100ft to shoot a snow panorama, I lost control and watched as the Mavic disappeared off into the distance.

Get yourself a couple of apps.... UAV Forecast and Windy.com both invaluable, set your safe to fly parameters and it will allow a moderation of comfort. Check prior to flying and when it say good to go you'll fly with confidence and not worry.

happened to me once, put it in sports mode and head for home, and I was not far from home so things went well, got a bit nervous especially when you see the warning land asap, so now I know what to do, however when the wind is high I don't fly.

all I do is basically just look at the tree tops, that usually tells me when to fly and when not to fly.

The way I look at it is a yellow warning is a heads up that it's getting windy at your current altitude and that any increase in altitude may be detrimental to your flight.   For me a red warning means land as soon as possible or at least reduce altitude.  Wind is one of the main contributing factors when there is a fly away.  When possible always try to make sure your return flight back to home will be with the wind, not against it.

Oh, bummer. Did you try with sport mode and lowering the drone?

The UAV app work very well and is a good resource. It give you wind speed at different heights. it's also free.

It is well worth it and love how it shows the wind speed at different heights.  It may say good to fly but then jump up to 100 feet and may not be good at all so take a look at the wind speed at the different heights.  Also may be worth to purchase the subscription so you get a good 7 day forecast so could plan out your trips better.  Would hate to go to a location especially far to shoot to find out cannot fly.

Yes thanks. I couldn't fly it back to me but i tilted the gimbal down, to look for a landing spot, and could only see snow, but I set it down and trudged half a mile through fields to retrieve it.

Great lesson.

Had never so much as touched the sports mode button at that point. The rapidly disappearing Mavic prompted full panic-mode. I had a cold snowy walk to find it, but I suffered no damage - only a red face!
