Hello guys!
Is there any side effect when holding the drone then flip it in order to turn it off? Is it bad for the drone in long term?

Thanks!!!!!

I guess it would be that the engines revs up quickly. I have done this almost each flight, but have not noticed anything strange

Like these, I will just use them in certain situations only eg. Landing on a Boat.

The only thing I am afraid of is the Wind Factor.

Why not just land on your flat palm?  I hover at around head height, hold my hand under the drone then pull the left stick down.  The drone lands on your palm then turns the motors off after 2-3 seconds of holding left stick down.  This way no need for finger guards, flips, or risk of catching the blades.  You don't even need to turn off the downward sensors.

I do that all the time as well but I dont know if its bad for the drone b/c sensors think the flip is some kind of crash. Thats why it turns off so quickly.

You looking dead on this pic!!!
I do that all the time b/c the palm landing (gesture mode) is hard to work. So to avoid dirt, sand or wet/high grass I'd rather do the "flip landing".

You gotta pay attention on the downward sensors b/c they will sense your hand and avoid it by going up. You gotta catch it in a way the sensors dont feel ya. hahahahahahahhahaha

You mean palm land using the controller?
If yes, its much more dangerous, any mistake can get you hurt or even hurt others around you. I truly dont recommend anyone to flat palm land using the controller. It takes a while to land and to turn off therefore any small stick command can ruin things big time.
Please say you meant Palm Landing using the gesture mode.
As far as I know sparks dont allow us to turn off the downward sensors.

There's an easier, IMO safer method to land on your hand: Hover at around head height, then hit the 'Landing' button. The AC will start to descend slowly, you have plenty of time to hold your hand under the Spark while it's descending, it will land on your palm and shut its motors off.

The problem is, if you're holding your hand under it while it's still just hovering (with your method), you can trigger the downward sensor and it will automatically move up. With my method, you're only holding your hand under it once it's already descending, and at that moment, the downward sensor is disabled.

I think doing this every flight might cause problems sooner or later. Flipping is for EMERGENCY purposes only and shouldn't be done in each flight..

I always do the PALM LAND EACH FLIGHT by hovering the AC in front of me then switch to GESTURE MODE and LAND

SAFE & EASY!

I am not sure about it but it’s safe to land on your palm but make sure you keep it flat when it’s landing.  Sometimes the AC refuses to land quick enough so I have catch it and flip quickly but this very very rare.

Sorry, I have a Mavic Air, so this is how I land mine 90% of the time.  No issues, no danger to me or others, and works with downward sensors on (the AC acts as if your palm is the ground).  I don't have a landing button on the remote so cannot compare to how this works if different.

As long as my hand isn't too close to the AC the bottom sensor has never caused it to move up.  The odd occasion (when I started) it did do this, it was only around 6" so caused no issue.  When landing, the AC acts as if your hand is the ground.  As I currently have a Mavic Air I don't have a landing button so forgot about this for the Spark.  Pulling back on left stick does the same thing for me.

I do the same when i hand land.  Initiate landing, and then let the bird settle in my hand.  No problems with sensors or anything.

Thats what came to my mind. It might be a problem in long term.
I've tried to palm land (gesture mode) a lot of times. I think it has worked twice. I don't know what I do wrong.
Thanks for replying m8!

The problem to me about this method is that I'm a really clumsy and distracted person with two left hands. hahahahahaha.  I ways fly on sport mode so the sticks are really sensible to any input. If I accidentally hit the stick while the drone lands things can go sour.

Hope this helps Brilhas ! I think you will need to PRESS DOWN ! I suggest wearing Safety Glasses too if you are close to the Spark when landing.

Be Safe !!

Try the other method (see post #10), it's easier since you don't have to hold the stick at the same time, and the motors stop by themselves once it's in/on your hand.

I don't see why this should be a problem, long term or even very long term. Of course it's an emergency procedure, but it's purely digital, it's not like there's any additional wear and tear going on. All that happens is, when the AC senses a certain angle, it switches off the motors. I don't see the harm in that.

Kurt, I second the idea that everything happening is digital and should not cause any undue wear on the craft. I also use the procedure that you outlined in post #10 and have never had an issue. Happy flying all.

Why dont you use the left stick for landing it in your hand?
I use the flip if I have to, but most times I fly it back to me, half a meter, 1.5m height or such, backwards to me, put the hand under it and force the landing with the stick.
Grab it just at the battery, under the back arms and the motors are switching off, short after
No finger guard needed. Till now

As I said I'm a clumsy kinda guy! I think it could be dangerous if I accidentaly hit a stick while the drone lands.
