So I did a test. My Cendence has been getting poor range, wanting to loose signal at 2,400 ft distance. I unplugged the patch antena and installed the stick antenas, same thing... 2,400 ft and it looses range. It also still said that the patch antena was connected, and it wasn't. Even turning it off and back on, it still said that the patch antena was connected.
I then re-linked the original I2 remote, and it got to 3,500 ft before it started to loose signal.

Help?

May I ask the type of environment in which you were flying? 3500 ft with stock RC seems a bit low, the patch antenna should get you at least that.

Are you on 2.4 GHz or 5.8? My understanding is that the patch antenna only uses 2.4.

Oh, are you in the US (FCC) or other region?

Based on DJI Mindy and the DJI engineers, the Patch antenna works on both 2.4 / 5.8 frequencies

I have seen this only 2.4 posted before and based on everything talked about …… this is incorrect information.

In.teresting, Please keep us posted. I do not use the Patch antenna. Use the Dipoles and have had no issues. Although, I very rarely go beyond 1500'

You are correct, The Patch is only good for 2.4 Geg.

I'm confused by this. I've used both 2.4 and 5.8 with the Patch.

I have to admit that I only read from other forum members stating that the patch is only 2.4, which is disputed by RichJ53, above.

So I’m most interested in finding this out, if only for curiosity’s sake.

By the way, I have flown with the patch antenna (on 2.4) to distances that would surely catch the ire of the drone police. Let’s just say I’m very happy with the Cednence's range performance.

Does the viewing device that you are using have anything to do with the reason the image may cut out? I ask because I have an older iPad air and the image seems to hold up just fine until I start to record.  Then if I am in an area that the image will start to sputter, doesnt happen all the time, the image does that green thing then comes back, then freezes, then comes back, then works for a while, then repeats the stutter, maybe some more green screen and on and on. Most frustrating as sometimes the bird may only be 400-500 feet away. Makes me think the processor is too slow or something. Really not sure.

Many thanks,
Houston

No disrespect intended regarding how the patch antenna works. There are YouTube videos and lots of posts claiming it only works on 2.4G and the 5.8 antennas are inside the remote controller case. I can not find my discussion with DJI Mindy and I asked this question many months ago. Hopefully she is reading this post and will comment again. What she said was the DJI engineers confirmed the patch antenna worked for both 2.4 & 5.8. Honestly I have not had any trouble with my Cendence remote or antenna systems.

Maybe, I forgot what was said, and you guys are right....

Rich, the bottom line is that nobody really know why some systems with Cendence delivers excellent performance and some don't. Patch antenna seems to be a flop in general, while some of us are quite happy using it. It's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get ...

It was a busy area this time. Tried both 2.4 and 5.8, but 2.4 always seems to get the best distance. U.S

Mine took the update, then started beeping and saying system error on numerous start ups, it still does it almost all the time... turn it off and back on to fix.   I will try today to do another test in a different area.

I have no problem going out to 4000' in a clear environment.  In a more busy space 2500 can be the limit but trees, buildings, wifi all have an impact on that.  There isn't an exact range that you will be able to get though in general I have found the Cendence to be better than the regular RC.

Right Rich, the Patch is only 2.4 and the 5.8 uses a separate set of antennas concealed in the top of the Cendence. Check out Mad RC on Youtube. He did a great review of the Cendence.

The 5.8 antennas are in the Cendence. You can have the Patch antenna connected  and that will be in use when using 2.4. When you use 5.8 the antennas in the Cendence will be in use. You  do not have to remove the Patch Antenna.

Rich, I am going by the Cendence review on Youtube by Madrc.  He does reviews for DJI on their equipment. I find him quite knowledgable. and it does make sense in that  the two frequencies are so far apart that the antennas will be cut at two different lengths and that 5.8 has greater penetration and the higher the frequency  will reduce the range a bit.
Edit: I'll send a note to Madrc

Hi there R8

I saw his video on Youtube too. I understand the concept of the antennas, but DJI could have planned this inside the Patch device as confirmed by Mindy.  Wait and see how they release the new Track Antenna with integrated GPS.
