Coming from 2 phantoms I got caught by surprise on my MA maiden when it refused to land unless I let it do it by itself. I would prefer to land under manually control as I can see precisely where it's going (and I'm using landing gear extensions anyway) so how do I do this?

Just hold the left stick down. Takes a second or two to check the landing site is even then down it goes.

If you disable the landing protection it will land manually (without that 2-4 sec delay detecting the floor)

OK will try that - from the sounds of it pushing the left stick down initiates a forced auto landing, is that right?

Thanks so full manual control then? I assume that this will also allow a hand catch or will the APAS still kick in?

It will land when pull the left stick down and hold on there. You can adjust the landing position by the right stick if necessary.

Per my reply to datadogie this is an autoland still? How quickly does it land from say a meter up which is where it stops descending on down stick.

Yeah, full control. Hand catch and everything. But beware that it will slam the floor

How's that so? Is that because most people would just bring it down too quickly?

Yep - be gently on the throttle bringing to the floor if you turn off landing protection.

Got it. I'm used to bringing it down manually (on P3/4s) so happy to be able to do this, although having the down stick autoland is useful too if the terrain is good.

I turn off landing protection and hand catch - never had a problem and so much more convenient

Yes, be gentle on the throttle when landing the drone. Nice suggestion.
