Today I took to the air to checkout the ongoings of the local railyard. I learned there are plenty of pigeons that hang out here. Enjoy.

Very nice. In the Netherlands we are not allowed to fly over railways, so filming this would have been unthinkable.

Thank you! On this shoot it was all thumbs. The only sensitivity I've adjusted it the gimball speed.  However, I did reverse the altitude controls to be more like airplane since my brain is more familiar with this setup from too many hours on the flight sims.

This couldn't be done in DK either unless you get a very special and very uncommon permission. We have to stay 150 meters (horisontal) away from all train rails.

Really nice footage. That's a huge rail yard... is that the one in North Platte, NE? BTW, lots of grain is hauled by train, and small amounts sometimes leak out, which is why there are so many pigeons.

Thanks Ray! This one is just outside of Sacramento, CA. Probably has the same issue with rice being sent out of the valley.

I live right near this thing so I had thought about flying over it. Union Pacific policy forbids overflight of rail yards and the like by drones. That being said they really don't have the authority to ban aircraft flying over but they could probably call the police and may get ya for flying recklessly or something. In the end I decided to go somewhere else. Especially because my sparks range limitations would require me to get pretty close and I really like the close up shots. The drone laws here are not very clear these days.
That was some super good footage you got though. Well done!

Fortunately, UP doesn't regulate any airspace. I took off from near the closed off street with the abandoned boat in the road way and other places to maintain line of sight.

And he was right! Trains are fascinating filming objects like some others too ;-)

Makes ya wonder how they keep track of where ALL those cars are, their load status,  as well as when they need maintenance.
