Why is it that all these devices are always shown being flown no more than a few feet off the ground, and mostly over water?

Would it be because no-one trusts them to be up 1000 feet in the air?

Yep!

I lived to see cannabis nearly legalized in Canada.

Will I see these in the city skyline or air, anytime soon?

Its operated by a control centre.  You order the taxi and it arrives at a location where it can land.  You can book your trip on the phone and the drone will take you there.

Expected next year

You miss my point, the fabulous good looking model they hired to play the part does not actually fly in the machine, in fact as far as I know there has only been one trial conducted where someone actually flew in the machine. That's how little faith they have in the machine.

Definitely a nice thing to have!
The problem with all these crafts is: There is no redundancy. One motor failure = crash.
Even a helicopter can do emergency landing via auto rotation if height is sufficient.
But the 4 prop drones will just fall. And we see a lot of P4s dropping these days like rocks ;-)

I like this one here. Made in Germany ;-)

It will be good to see more about this Lilium Jet!
and yes they need to figure out something about an emergency landing.

Why is it called a jet, it is, more or less, a ducted fan aircraft. There is no jet turbine in it.

Jet is a very general term for a lot and not only turbine driven things.
E.g. the Jetstream doesn't use any turbines either ;-)

So, yet again mangling of the English language. As applied to aircraft, and this is an aircraft, jet means jet turbine power, pure and simple.
