I live in suburban Columbus, Ohio. I've about 99% convinced myself to buy a Mavic Air drone, but I haven't made the purchase yet. I've been a still photographer for more than 40 years, and I can't resist the temptation to try aerial photography. I might shoot some video just for fun, but my emphasis will likely remain still photography.

I've found, and read, about a gazillion Web pages, including those on the FCC site, that warn me about where I can't fly a drone. I'm most interested in where I can fly one. Put another way, where are some interesting places I can take a drone to get aerial photographs? I'm aware that a lot depends on local laws and regulations, but I'm hoping for some general ideas as to where I can take a drone to have fun with it and get some photos.

You can click here  https://www.dji.com/flysafe?site=brandsite&from=footer. Click on GeoZone Map, scroll the map to where you want to fly and see if DJI will allow you to. Red zones= No Fly / Yellow Zones=No Fly / Green Zones= Fly. Do a lot of reading and watch a lot of U Tube on the matter. As far as subject matter the trick is to find it in a place you can fly.

i suggest an app called Airmap.  its pretty solid app that can help you out.  just look out for red/orange zones and zones with red stripes.. otherwise with greens/limes/yellow greens, mostly okay..

Great post! Different towns and states have different laws so it’s great to have an app about this.

Thanks to National Park service, all but a very few parks are off limits.

Something about drones disturbing Wildlife.  Not that humans with their screaming offspring in tow, would bother wildlife - as they stampede through.

You can also get Big Brother's Official flying app, B4UFLY, which will show you No Fly Zones when planning.
