Evening everyone,

I picked up a Mavic air yesterday, the first proper drone I have owned. As im new to this I was just wondering if there are many users on here from Scotland and If so can you recommend and good spots to go?

Thanks

Ross

Welcome to the Mavic Air family!  Also, not from Scotland, but I'm sure you'll start finding great places to shoot.   I would start with local parks or lakes.  Once you get the aircraft down well, you'll find yourself wanting to pack it up and go everywhere!  Fly Safe!!

Thanks guys, I've had a couple of little flights so far but nothing too exciting. The weather here isn't great just now so thats not helping me
I was amazed at how well the thing flies, any drone I've tried before has always taken some getting used to.

Thanks for all the good luck comments. Not the best day today as its very windy but I couldn't wait to get a proper shot. Headed over to the local rugby club and took a few pics.

Congrats - very nice first shot! Download NATS drone assist - that will tell you where you can and can't fly across the whole of the UK.

Good stuff. What I did too is look at google maps within a one-hour drive of my house and found some parks and interesting locations. Check the parks out on their own website for any by-laws that may have banned drones then head out and see how you get on. I've discovered 9 locations within 30 minutes of me where I mainly fly and have done without any issues for 2 years and I live in North London. Also check out the CAA website for drone laws and regs. Have fun.

There is nothing wrong with that at all!  You need to be comfortable with your aircraft and not only what it can do, but what YOU are able to do with it.  You'll get comfortable quickly,  and you'll start flying higher and farther.
Enjoy yourself!  and Fly Safe!

Out of interest, have you had any issues flying it in windy conditions??

I've flown in some pretty high wind, but only had a problem once.  But in fairness, that was more than a wind problem.  That was a stupid new pilot problem that wind compounded.

See this thread

The Mavic Air can handle significant wind, and hold steady.  As long as your GPS is locked, (with 12 or more satellites), you should be able to withstand winds up to 48 kph.  I would not recommend flying in that strong of a wind, but I've been up to around 32 kph and been able to still get a few good shots and bring her home safely.

Why would anyone buy a Mavic Air, when they already have a Mavic Pro? ... Best waiting for a newer version of the Mavic Pro, or alternatively purchase a Autel Evo,

It does offer a few upped specs over and above the Pro. Although subjective, the camera in my opinion is better providing sufficient light levels dictate. It’s smaller, and yes I know the MP is not exactly a bus size. The Air also offers a couple more quick flight modes and has rear sensors.

I’m under no illusion though that my Pro will have a better range, better battery life etc.
