Hello,

First time posting, but wanted to get your thoughts. I currently work in a small community to create highlight videos of various projects that our church does all over the world. Coming up we have a major fundraiser event to help raise enough money to put in three wells in three countries that do not have access to safe clean water. Part of my responsibilities is to raise awaireness of the event. I primarily do this through filming videos.

In the past I have used a go pro attached to a came-tv gimbal and a drone. After three years of use the came tv gimbal has broke down and my camera needs a video quality upgrade. I have recently had great success flying a Mavic Air and saw that DJI is offering Refurbished Osmo's for $279. My question however is it still worth it?

I'm just worried because videos on Youtube seem to suggest a wide range of problems for $600 units. I have noticed on the forums there is not a lot of activity anymore.

Would this be a purchase you would make against at less than $300. We are looking for easy to use, good stability, and average HD quality.

To answer quickly, yes the Osmo is still very viable and a great device, it hits all of your points, easy to use, good stability and very nice HD quality. However, I do want to point out some things that I think might help you make your purchase. First, the Osmo is heavily dependant on the app, you can shoot video and record by just turning the Osmo on and pushing buttons, but you will not be able to see anything or change settings. The problem here is not the reliance on the app, but that you need to use your phone to access the app, I can tell you this was a huge problem for me when the Osmo was first released. Battery dying, phone calls or texts interrupting filming, also phones tend to lose brightness when they get hot and battery gets low so they can be hard to see in the daytime, I can honestly say this was one of the biggest drawbacks of owning an Osmo. Then they released the crystalsky, it's basically a dedicated Android tablet disguised as a monitor, it solves all the issues and makes operating the Osmo a breeze, I also see you own a Mavic Air and the cystalsky can act as a monitor for that drone as well as any Dji drone you purchase in the future. It's not cheap but for everything it does, I feel it was worth every penny. You're the only one who knows what will be best for you, so I say keep doing your research and when you're ready, go for it, but if you're afraid the Osmo is no longer viable or competitive, I'd have to say it definitely is, even if it's at the end of its life cycle.

Hope everything turns out great for you. Cheers.

The original Osmo with the x3 camera is still a great device, but battery life isn’t wonderful. DJI make a dummy battery adapter that lets you use drone batteries (if you own them) instead, which makes a massive difference. Check out the DJI store or eBay

The ten pin fits phantom 4 batteries, and the 2 pin fits phantom 3 batteries
